2. How to publish your webpage on UHUNIX.

1) To publish your web pages on UHUNIX, you need a directory called
"public_html" on your home directory.
i) ~johndoe/
ii) ~johndoe/public_html (YES, it's ready)

2) The URL of your page will be in the form:

http://www2.hawaii.edu/~username/

3) If you don’t have “public_html” and “default page” on your account, go to
https://sunsys.its.hawaii.edu/acctmgmt/ and use ITS utilities to create them.

3. How to transfer your files from local computer to your website on UHUNIX – Updates and maintenance.

1) You will need a FTP program to upload and download files from your website.

Most popular FTP program is WS_FTP (LE). You can download it at . (MAC: )

2) Initial set up:

Host Name: uhunix2.its.hawaii.edu

Username:

<Your UH Username>

Password:

<Your Password>

Your computer and Your Uhunix home directory and

your local webpages currently accessible webpages

With WS_FTP, you can also create directories and delete/rename directories & files.

4. Creating a webpage with Netscape Composer

Netscape Composer is the easy-to-use web page editor that makes creating a web page as easy as possible. Composer enables you to work in a WYSIWIG (what you see is what you get) environment - just like a word processor - and it automatically generates the HTML code you need to make your page do what you want it to do.

1) Netscape Composer comes with Netscape Web Browser. You can download the latest version from

2) After installation, start your Netscape browser and you can open Netscape Composer from the Browser Menu  Window (on top menu bar)  Select Netscape Composer

3) Creating a webpage: First, save your blank page. Start to create your webpage.

i) Page Property:

  1. Page Title
  2. Background Image

ii) Formatting Text:

  1. Heading/List/Paragraph
  2. Color/Size/Alignment

iii) Creating a table

  1. Border/Spacing/Padding/Size/Color/
  2. Insert/Merge/Delete cells/rows

iv) Inserting an image

  1. Insert Image / Align text to image
  2. Insert a link to the image

v) Creating a link

  1. Absolute address/Relative address
  2. Create an anchor/ a mail link.

5. Netscape Composer - Publishing address: ftp://uhunix2.its.hawaii.edu/public_html

  • To change the directory, select another tab
