Subject: Local Citizens Receive Governor’s Volunteer Award

Kurt Baumhover and Scott Tigges received a 2015 Governor’s Volunteer award from Governor Terry Branstad and Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds during a special recognition ceremony held June 19th in Council Bluffs.

“Iowa is recognized as a national leader in volunteerism and service because of the steadfast devotion of our volunteers,” stated Governor Terry E. Branstad. “I am pleased to have an opportunity to personally thank this year’s Governor’s Volunteer Award recipients for contributing their priceless time and talent in ways that make an enormous difference in our state.”

Baumhover & Tigges were nominated for individual Volunteer Awards by the Carroll Chamber of Commerce for their years of volunteer work on the Youth Hoop It Up Basketball Tournament. They were two of the original Chamber Board Members serving on the steering committee that created the event. Baumhover serves as Tournament Director and Tigges serves as Tournament Scheduler since the beginning of the event in 2006. Both men have displayed commitmentsfar beyond the levels of a typical volunteer by donating countless hours and providing attention to detail necessary to host a quality tournament in Carroll. Each of the past nine years approximately 50 teams came to Carroll for a two day tournament, generating a substantial revenue stream for local merchants.

“The people selected for these awards have gone well above and beyond what’s expected in their quest to help others,” said Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds. “Their hard work and dedication have encouraged other citizens to become more engaged, which makes stronger communities.”

Shannon Landauer, Executive Director of the Carroll Chamber of Commerce commented “It has been wonderful getting to work with Kurt and Scott, both of these gentlemen work so hard to make sure that Carroll’s event is one of the best in the state. This isn’t just my opinion, but we hear it over and over from coaches and parents that are involved in Hoop It Up. We are thankful for the time and effort they put into the event, and all that they do for a community as a whole on that weekend!”

The 10th Annual Hoop It Up Tournament will be held on February 27th and 28th at several facilities throughout the community.
