During this lesson, the students will learn about sports. Under this Terminal Learning Objective, the students will learn one task: discuss sports. At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

Tip of the day

There are three words in Serbian that correspond to the English – fan. They are: обожавалац, љубитељ, навијач.

Он је љубитељ фудбала.He is a soccer fan.

Мирко је обожавалац кошарке. Mirko is a basketball fan.

Раде је навијач Црвене Звезде.Rade is a Red Star fan.

European football, which is well-known as soccer in North America, is the most popular sport in the FRY. Yugoslavian soccer players are well- known in the soccer world, and play in the most famousEuropean clubs of Italy, Spain, France and Germany.

A few words about a soccer game: When the fans want to encourage their team and express their own emotions they often chant the same word in both cases: Напред наши! (Go ahead our team!) When the team scores a point, everyone yells: Гол! Гол!During soccer matches, when the fans do not agree with the referee’s decision and get mad at him, they sometimes yell: Судијалопове! The meaning is funny and humiliating at the same time. There is a lot of whistling at a soccer stadium. Звиждање – whistling in Yugoslavia is a strong expression of disapproval. Whistling is never used as an expression of approval. You will never hear anyone whistle at a concert hall, opera house, drama theater, etc. as an expression of disapproval or approval.

Предраг Стојаковић је рођен 9. јуна 1977. у Славонској Пожеги. Кошаркашку школу је прошао у локалном клубу Папук. 1991. Стојаковић је преселио са родитељима у Нови Сад. Почео је да игра у тиму Црвене Звезде и показао велики таленат. Први озбиљнији тим за који је Стојаковић играо је грчки ПАОК. У Солуну је Стојаковић примио грчко држављанство. Први трогодишњи уговор са Сакраменто Кингсима је потписао 15. јуна 1998. године.
