A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 4013250, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO ANNUAL RENEWAL OF COSMETOLOGISTS LICENSES AND THE REQUIREMENT THAT APPLICANTS COMPLETE CERTAIN CONTINUING EDUCATION, SO AS TO EXEMPT A PERSON WHO HAS HELD A LICENSE FOR AT LEAST FIFTEEN CONSECUTIVE YEARS AND IS SIXTY YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER OR HAS HELD CONTINUOUS LICENSURE FOR AT LEAST THIRTY YEARS, IS FIFTY YEARS OLD, AND WHO HAS NOT BEEN DISCIPLINED BY THE BOARD OF COSMETOLOGY FROM TAKING THE CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSES; AND TO PROVIDE THAT, UPON APPROVAL BY THE BOARD, AN ATTENDANCE FORM MAY BE OBTAINED GIVING CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT FOR ATTENDANCE AT TRADE SHOW COSMETOLOGYRELATED INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAMS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION1.Section 4013250(A) of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 222 of 2000, is further amended to read:

“(A)The holder of an individual license issued by the board biennially, on such date as may be designated by the board, shall renew his or her license and pay the renewal fee and furnish proof to the board that he or she has completed continuing education approved by the board. A person who has held a license for at least fifteen consecutive years and is sixty years of age or older or who has held continuous licensure for at least thirty years, is fifty years of age, and who has not been disciplined by the board is exempt from taking continuing education courses. Upon approval by the board and submission of an attendance form prescribed by the board, a person may obtain continuing education credit by attendance at trade show cosmetologyrelated instructional programs.”

SECTION2.This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
