/ Secured $40 million dollar Broadband FCC/MA grant to bring the “Big Pipe” to Cape Cod for improved internet access. Planned and designed a robust infrastructure with 350 miles of fiber-optic cable, to increase the efficiency, availability and speed of the internet for Cape Cod’s businesses, schools, government agencies, and residents.

/ Barnstable Fiber Optic Network In a process that took approximately 12 years to complete, the Town utilized Comcast Franchise Fees ($2.2 million) to purchase and install 65 miles of Fiber Optic Cable, strung on 1700 poles, to connect 54 municipal buildings with a 10 G connection between all buildings.

/ Participated in meetings beginning with Open Cape, and then with all partners for long-range planning and the impact on Barnstable Public Schools. Researched networking and digital resources for implementation. Met with, researched and selected vendors, planned, implemented and oversaw installation of networking cabling, hardware, servers and software. Developed plans for educational technology including selection of devices and all related peripheral equipment. Provided professional development for staff, informational meetings for parents, and training for students.

/ A 3- year projected plan for infrastructure improvements totaling $500,000 has been submitted through the TOB Capital Improvement Projects. This 3 year project includes upgrades of MDF and IDF equipment, cat 6 cabling, and installation of an enterprise solution for wireless (Hp Switches and Ruckus Wireless) for every school building within Barnstable Public Schools. Funding for Year 1 has been approved, appropriated, and completed ($190,000.00.) Year two of this funding project has been submitted and waits approval($203,000). FY 16 represents the 3rd and final leg of the 3 year projected project ($212,000).

/ In coordination with the District Technology staff designed, installed and executed a Ruckus business-class, managed, secure and intelligent Wi-Fi network inside Barnstable Intermediate School. The BPS District Technology Department will expand wireless networking to BHS in the summer of 2014.

/ Barnstable’s School Committee members and Administration supported the vision of shifting theories in education, and embraced the development of technology use in the classroom using mobile learning strategies. School Committee voted in January of 2014 to approve $241,000 for the purchase of the iPads and related equipment (carts, covers, apps, etc.)
