INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS
This course will expand on students’ previous knowledge of geometric concepts by having them explore more complex situations. This will help them to move towards more formal mathematical thinking and logical reasoning.
These skills will be assessed by a standardized test at the end of the year that will count 30% of the student’s final grade.

COURSE SCHEDULE
Please note that we will not be going straight through the book. We will be using the text book as a reference tool and I will be supplementing with other resources.

Paper Colored Pencils
Calculator – I prefer a scientific calculator, but a basic one will suffice.
NO graphing calculators.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
General Rules
1. Respect others and yourself at all times.
2. Come to class prepared with pencil, notebook, textbook, and paper.
3. Enter the classroom quietly and be seated. Start bell ringer immediately.
4. Raise your hand at all times and wait to be acknowledged.
5. Leaving Classroom:
ALWAYS fill out the sign out sheet next to door and:
a. If you need to see the nurse, please complete a clinic form located in the bottom folder.
b. If you need to leave room for any other reason, fill out your agenda book and bring to me to sign.
c. Bathroom breaks will only occur during the bell ringer or after the lecture.
GRADING POLICIES
Grading Criteria:
60% - Tests 40% - Daily work
Tests
There will be 3-5 tests per nine weeks. Test grades may also be given for vocabulary and projects at various times during the year. All other grades such as in-class assignments, homework assignments, and bell ringers will be counted as daily grades.
If at all possible, tests will not be scheduled for Mondays.
Notebook
The notebook (binder) should include the following: Grade sheet, Syllabus, Class Procedures, Examples, Vocabulary, Notes, and Homework Assignments.
Homework
Homework is due at the beginning of class. All work should be shown, no steps skipped! Homework that only has answers will only receive partial credit. Homework will be graded in two parts: 10 points are given based on completion. The other 10 points involve correctness of problems. I will be randomly picking the problems that will be graded for correctness, and you will not know which problems these are until I have graded the homework. Homework will only be graded if it is legible.
Grading Scale
90-100 = A 80-89 = B 70-79 = C 60-69 = D 0-59 = F
Make-Up Work Policy
Turn in all work on time. This means when it is requested by the teacher. Late work will only be accepted a day after it is due (unless you are absent). If it is turned in late, it will have a 10% deduction. However, you are only allowed to turn in late work three times. After this you will receive a 0.
Make up all assignments when you are absent. It is your responsibility to ask for your missing assignments, complete them, and turn them in according to the school’s make-up work policy. The assignments will be found in the Absent Bin at the back of the room. Look in the folder that is marked with the period your class is. Come talk to me to determine when you will make up a test or activity, and when a date is figured out fill out the clipboard next to the Absent Bin.
If an assignment or notice of a test was given when you were present, you are expected to turn in the assignment or take the test the day you come back to school.

You may always leave a message if you are unable to reach me and I will return your email promptly.
Quality Points
These are points that can be earned two ways. If a student is on time to my class, they receive one point. If the student turns in their homework and it is completed, they will receive another point. Since students will be turning in homework Tuesday through Friday, this means you may earn a total of 9 points a week.
What are these points good for? If you have earned 20 quality points, you may buy a homework pass. A homework pass allows a student to turn in the pass instead of the homework and still receive full credit. If a student has 36 quality points you may buy a bathroom pass, which will allow you to use the bathroom at any point during the period.
Quality points reset every quarter. They do not roll over to the next quarter.
