Kindergarten Blizzard Bag 2

Parents, choose one activity that will best fit the needs of your child from each section (Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies and Technology). For each Blizzard Bag please choose a different activity. Please refer to their report card or a conference discussion. Please provide all evidence possible and take notes where possible to assist the teacher with the level your child is achieving. Don’t forget to circle the options chosen and sign the paper on the back.

Reading:

  1. Practice ABC flashcards that your teacher gave you at the beginning of the year. Work on speed of saying the letters fast! Work letter sounds with those same cards. We have learned most of the letter sounds.
  2. Sight word flashcards practice to prepare for the Kindergarten Olympic sight word showdown. Metals will be awarded in front of the group so work hard!
  3. Read stories and identify the characters, setting, and main idea then write a sentence together about their opinion about the story and of course include why.

4. Use any excuse to get your child to write words for example let them write the grocery list, label your house, write a letter to a friend they miss at school or their favorite teacher.

5. Read a book to your child or have them read it to you, draw a picture of your favorite part. Then write a sentence about your favorite part.

6. Make a book using rhyming words. Example: The cat wears a hat.

7. Read a book, have your child draw a picture of the characters, and write a sentence telling who the characters are.

8. Read a book, draw a picture of the setting, and write a sentence telling where the setting took place.

9. Read, read, read!Your child can read to mom, dad, brother, sister, grandma, or grandpa.Have some fun and try reading to the cat, dog, or even a stuffed animal!

10. Draw a picture and write a sentence about how you spent your day off. Stretch out each word by yourself or with someone's help. Write the sounds you hear.

Notes:

Math:

  1. Count and write numbers to 100.
  2. Write the number and draw that number (0 through 20).
  3. Addition practice use flashcards to memorize their facts. Facts can be written horizontally or vertically. You can use food to model adding two groups together….yummy!
  4. Show the child two groups of objects and let them write least 10 addition sentences (i.e 2+2=4)
  5. Compare 10 groups of numbers using any objects you have around your house.
  6. Draw a picture using a square, rectangle, triangle, and circle then write a sentence about the picture.
  7. Sort 10 toys by color, size, shapes and kind thenwrite how you sorted them.
  8. Bake with your child. Have them read a recipe, measure ingredients but most important follow directions.
  9. Play a board game as a family, such as Connect Four, Monopoly, CandyLand, Uno, Chutes and Ladders.
  10. Time your child counting to 100 (if they can), have them try and beat their time.

Notes:

Science:

  1. Talk about the season we are in with someone and discuss the characteristics during that season. Draw a picture of an outfit you would wear in each season.
  2. Draw and label a picture of each of the five senses.
  3. Draw a picture of your favorite thing to do in the season we are in and write a sentence about it.
  4. Fill a cup full of snow and describe it using your five senses.
  5. Discuss and sort pictures from a magazine of things that are living and non-living.

Social Studies:

1. Draw a map of your bedroom and label it.

  1. Draw a picture or cut out a picture of a want and a need.
  2. Practice your address and phone number.
  3. What is one rule at school? Write it and draw a picture.
  4. List 5 rules you have at home. Draw a picture of yourself following one of those rules and write a sentence.
  5. Draw a picture and write a sentence about a family tradition.
  6. Choose an American Symbol and write a sentence about it.
