Job Title: Outreach Officer (Primary Schools)

Salary: £22,249 - £26,537 per annum

Contract Status: 18 months, fixed term (until 3rd July 2017)
Hours of Work: 36.25 per week
Location: King’s Meadow Campus
Reporting to: Primary Policy and Engagement Manager
Purpose of the New Role:
To contribute to the co-ordination, development and delivery of projects and activities targeting primary school children and their families in and near Nottingham serving communities that do not have a strong tradition of progression to Higher Education (HE). All activities operate within the context of enriching the curriculum and raising aspirations and awareness of Higher Education as an option for all. Activities will be delivered in schools, on University campuses and in Nottingham Potential Local Learning Centres with our partner IntoUniversity. The post holder will work within existing project management systems and processes and develop new ones as appropriate to the role.
Main Responsibilities / % time per year1. / Project and event management, facilitation and delivery
Contribute to the organisation and delivery of projects, activities and events across all strands of work within the Primary schools team delivered both in schools and on University campuses. This will include:
· Liaising with relevant University staff and students regarding the development and delivery of activities
· Developing and implementing effective systems for managing projects delivered to schools
· Contributing to the delivery of themed visits to University campuses
· Developing and delivering activities in primary schools that both enhance the curriculum and raise aspirations to HE
· Supporting the development and delivery of activities aimed at engaging families in learning together
· Recruiting, briefing and on occasion training volunteers and Student Ambassadors to support activities, events and visits as necessary
· Working with other relevant staff to manage and co-ordinate legal and procedural aspects of all activities both in schools and on University Campuses
· Supporting the delivery of IntoUniversity ‘Focus Days’ and other ‘Focus’ activities as required
· Supporting student and academic volunteers to ensure appropriate and quality delivery in primary projects
· Participating in other University wide events as required e.g. University of Nottingham Open Days / 80%
3. / Data collection and management
To ensure relevant data is collected and collated in order to report accurately and in a timely manner on the volume, quality and impact of the projects and activities that are being delivered. This will be done in line with systems and processes in place within the Widening Participation team for gathering and recording information. This will include:
· Ensuring that relevant information about activities delivered is gathered and appropriately recorded
· Reporting on relevant activities as required
· Ensuring appropriate evaluations are carried out within agreed systems and processes with schools, volunteers and other relevant parties / 10%
4. / General and administrative
To contribute to other relevant Primary Schools Team and Widening Participation Team activities as required and assist with any other administrative duties as directed by Line Management / 10%
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential / DesirableQualifications/ Education / · Educated to degree level (or equivalent) or significant experience in a relevant role / · Teaching or other relevant learning/communication qualification e.g. Teaching English as a Foreign Language, Science Communication etc.
Skills/Training / · Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
· Ability to develop and deliver engaging learning activities to primary aged children
· Excellent organisational, time management skills and ability to prioritise workload
· Excellent IT skills (MS Office) and the ability to format documents to a professional standard
· Ability to maintain high standards of professionalism and enthusiasm for all activities delivered / · Understanding of the requirements of the Data Protection Act and Child Protection legislation
· Understanding of Health & Safety issues in relation to activities delivered
· Competent in the use of databases and data management systems
Experience / · Experience of organising and delivering events
· Experience of developing and delivering learning activities to children within an education setting (either informal or formal)
· Experience of managing a broad range of interactions with different audiences
· Experience of managing a range of different projects/activities at the same time / · Experience of working with or within the Primary Schools Sector
· Experience and understanding of the Higher Education Sector (either through work or study)
· Experience of working with parents/carers

Statutory/Legal/ Other / · Satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check carried out through the University upon appointment
· A full driving licence, access to a car and car insurance for business purposes OR ability to travel
Decision Making
