Alone in Alaska

Alex has decided to leave everything behind and give up his friends, his family, his job and his former life. He wants to leave the beaten track survive with the bare necessities of life and spend a few months in the wild …. He wants to be cut off from the world and live off the land.

The text is a passage/ an extract from the novel Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer published in 1997. It was made into a film by Sean Penn in 2007. This film, by actor and director Sean Penn, is based on a true story. After graduating from Emory University, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless leaves everything behind, gives up his home, family and possessions, gives all his savings ($ 24,000) to charity organizations and embarks on a journey throughout America, hitchhiking to Alaska to live off the land in the wilderness.
Along the way, he encounters some people who shape his life. When he finally reaches Alaska he finds he has not been prepared for the hardships to come. Trapped by the snow and with no means of sustaining himself, he takes to eating berries and fauna that he identifies using a book. Unfortunately, he awakes one morning to find that the berries he ate the night before are in fact poisonous.
