TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE GAFFNEY HIGH SCHOOL “INDIANS” GOLF TEAM AND TO COACH KEVIN PHILLIPS, ON THEIR OUTSTANDING DETERMINATION AND HARD WORK THROUGHOUT THE SEASON AND ON CAPTURING THE 2003 CLASS AAAA STATE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 14, 2003.
Whereas, the game of golf affords young people the opportunity to learn the importance of dedication and teamwork while developing unique talents; and
Whereas, becoming a champion in this sport requires every member of the team and coaching staff to have special leadership skills and athletic abilities; and
Whereas, using those talents, Coach Kevin Phillips and the members of the Gaffney High School “Indians” Golf Team played matches throughout the season with determination and precision to become the best golf team in their division; and
Whereas, with every team member’s enthusiasm and hard work and with the direction of Coach Kevin Phillips, the Gaffney High School “Indians” Golf Team defeated teams from across the State, including their most challenging competition being Greenwood High School, to become the 2003 Class AAAA State Golf Champions, scoring 296300301 in the championship tournament at Furman University Golf Course; and
Whereas, the members of this exceptional team are Nick Hughey, Ben Karns, Paul Butler, Preston Thomas, Kyle Parker, Andy Karns, and Gage Clary; and
Whereas, with this win, the team captured the school’s firstever State Golf Championship; and
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize the physical and mental abilities of these young South Carolinians and hope that they will use those skills in their future endeavors. Now, therefore,
