Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH

Received Bachelors of Science in Chemistry in May, 2010

GPA: 3.33

Research:

  • Senior research project focused around bis-phosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw and resulted in a review paper titled “Bisphosphonates and Osteonecrosis: The Scourge of Bis-phossy Jaw.”
  • Showed excellent work in physical chemistry labs, particularly involving electrochemistry and spectroscopy

Teaching Experience

Jefferson County Public Schools

Pleasure Ridge Park High School, Chemistry teacher

  • Designed and presented first-year chemistry to 10th grade students
  • Designed appropriate lab activities to teach basic equipment familiarity, lab technique, measurement and data collection, and certain chemical concepts
  • New lab activities included: exploring electrochemical cells, study of physical properties of materials, exploration of entropy through arrangements and hands of playing cards, comparison of reaction rate factors, properties of household acids and bases by indicator and taste (food products only), and identification of mystery acids and bases by indicator.
  • August, 2011 – August 2014

Research Experience

Jefferson County Public Schools

Performed personal research after school to design new labs and demonstrations and to maintain personal and professional development. Treated all chemical waste with hydroxide to precipitate out most heavy metals. Developed a lab for advanced students to compare reactivities of Mg, Sr, Zn, and Cu. Developed a co-opetitive review activity based on Dungeons & Dragons. (2011 – 2014)

Case Western Reserve University

Advisor: Dr. John Protasiewicz

Explored the history of bis-phosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw through all published case studies and examined the proposed mechanism of phosphorus-mediated bone decay. (2010)

University of Cincinnati

Advisor: Dr. David Mast

Tested microwave resonance in brass cavities. Used microwave resonance in brass probes to generate topographical maps of small objects such as ridged wax slides and pennies. (2005 – 2006)

Activities

  • Attended 2014 ACS Green Chemistry Conference
  • ACS Member as of June 2014
  • Chairman of the Board of Directors for Louisville Country Dancers for 2013-2015, served on the Board as Secretary for 2012-2013
