THE SHORT HISTORY OF „VASILACHE” PUPPET THEATRE
FROM BOTOŞANI – ROMANIA
Theatre has always been an efficient, opened, unprejudiced and without barriers way in communicating the ideas, the creations of different authors, being nothing else but complementary images of the world. This way, it is not by chance that the first theatres had appeared in a democratic state, just like the Ancient Greece. The opening to the world, to new ideas and tendencies, has been a constant value of the artistic activity from then until today.
Prestigious cultural institution, „VASILACHE” PUPPET THEATRE from Botosani –Romania has been founded at the 1st of May 1953, according to the decision of our city's public administration, the first director being the regrettable Max Weber. At first it has been called, in the tone of the epoch, “THE RED TIE”, but from 1973 it has been given the name of a well-known Romanian puppet – “VASILACHE”.
The first performance had taken place at the 25th of June, with the show “The Little Goose”, directed by Florica Teodoru, the scene-painter being Tache Dobrescu.
In all its 54 years of activity its repertory has included originally works, but also many Romanian or foreign versions after fairy-tales and literary works such as Creanga, Eminescu, Sadoveanu, Cezar Petrescu, Victor Eftimiu, Gellu Naum and then Swift, Puskin, Kipling, Oscar Wilde, even Shakespeare, Homer, Aristofan, Grimm Brothers, Andersen, Charles Perrault and many others.
Many well-known managers and scene-painters in the area of the art of puppets from Romania have contributed to the realization of the theater's performances.
About the quality of the puppeteer’s services can speak the impressive number of performances and the audience, the tours around our country and those in ten European states, the prizes won at other festivals organized by Romanian or foreign puppet theatres.
The public administration has understood that the education of the young generation must occupy an important place as part of its politics and has supported along the years the theatre's activity, the best proof in this way being the active participation at the organization of “THEINTERNATIONAL GALA OF PUPPET RECITALS”, a biannual manifestation, being already at the 8th edition.
Since 1992, at our Gala have been present, beside troupes from our country, theatres from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Switzerland, France, Italy, Moldavian Republic, Russia, Spain, Ukraine.
Lately we have as a producer with great results Mr. Valentin Dobrescu, working side by side with the talented scene-painter Mihai Pastramagiu and we can also observe the actors' concern in handling with puppets.
This is why the puppet theatre can be considered, without the fear of being wrong too much, an important institution for a society, which wants to be governed in the name of some rates and ideas, oriented towards the human being and the internal and international reconnaissance of “Vasilache” Puppet Theatre is dued to a great extent to this belief with which it succeeds in the non-formal education of those who are very young, always being in accordance with the noble destination which stands at the bottom of its activity.
