Japan vs. Belgium, Draw 2-2
Japan opens campaign in a draw with South Korea. South Korea posts 1st-ever finals win. Japan picked up its first-ever World cup point with a 2-2 draw in a thrilling Group H game played against Belgium in front of a crowd of more than 55,000 at Saitama Stadium. Goals from Takayuki Suzuki and Junichi Inamoto gave Philippe Troussier’s side the draw, Japan’s first in four World Cup matches.
“We are the challengers in this group, and I’m satisfied with the result,” Troussier said after the game. “We lacked positioning and experience and we had the chances to win. But it is a precious point.”
Elite Athletes Compete at the Braul’s BBQ
On My 30, a big sports event was held at the Braul’s BBQ. First H-TEP members played soccer. Kharytia, a Canadian National Team player, and Emile, a member of Team France, who won the World Cup championship in 1998, began to play. And Hitoshi, a member of a local team in Hokkaido joined them. Their earnest play made a deep impression on the audience. Next, 10 members played soccer. Katsu from the Chicken Pox scored 1 goal, and their team won, 1-0.
After the soccer game, there was a volleyball game. Yvonne’s partner, Brent, played an active part in the game. Both of the teams were very good and after the game they praised each other.
Next there was a badminton match. The match began when Shin, who is a member of H-TEP, challenged Bryan. They played a doubles match. When the shuttlecock became stuck in Shin’s racket, the match was over.
All H-TEP members had a really good time. They found that not only conversation, but also sports, can be a way to communicate.
