Welcome to MATH 10 and the Math Teaching and Learning Center!

NOTE: This course does NOT use D2L. See for course info.

A few important announcements about the first day of class:

You MUST attend the first class session on Tuesday, January 23rd, because:

  • Some sections of the course are filled to capacity with waiting lists.

Anyone who misses the first day of class risks being administratively dropped from the course to open a slot for someone on the waiting list.

  • There will be a 10-point quiz covering syllabus items on the first day of class.*

Thesepoints cannot be made up if you do not attend the first class.

(A syllabus will be handed out at the first class session and can be used for the quiz.)

  • In addition to the syllabus quiz points, you’ll also get attendance points for this first day. Again, these points cannot be made up if you miss class that day.
  • We will be using an online software package for which you will receive an access code at the first class meeting allowing you to register on-linewhile following step-by-step instructions from your instructor. Missing the first class will put you behind schedule immediately, since you’ll need to be registered in the software to do the syllabus quiz and submit homework assignments.

**** You DO NOT need to check out a TEXTBOOK ****

You DO NOT need to check out a textbook for this course from Instructional Resources at the library. You will automatically get access to the online version of Beginning Algebra, 5th edition, by K. Elayn Martin-Gay, Prentice Hall (2008). A few copies are available for checkout at Instructional Resource Services if you would like to have a paper copy for reference, but this is not required.

IMPORTANT:BRING YOUR LAPTOP & POWER CORD

TO CLASS FOR THIS FIRST SESSION (and every session thereafter).

The Math TLC lab has network connector ports at each student workspace, but DOES NOT have computers at these stations. If you don’t bring your laptop, you won’t be able to register, take the first quiz, or do any assignments during the class session.

You should also bring note-takingmaterialsto class the first day and all subsequent class sessions. (Keeping a paper notebook is strongly encouraged and will be rewarded with participation points.)

*NOTE: A hard copy of the syllabus and a calendar of course lectures, quizzes, tests and assignment due dates will be handed out at the first class period. These handouts contain all answers to the syllabus quiz and can be used as you take the online, first-day syllabus quiz in class.
