Downtown Oakland Park Culinary Arts District
Celebrating “Season 2” of Discovery Farm MarketplaceFarm to Chef Showcase
The Urban Farming Institute, in partnership with the City’s Parks & Leisure Services Department, started “Season 2” of the weekly Discovery Farm Marketplace on Wednesday, November 5th, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. The farm market event is specifically designed to improve the opportunity for local farmers to promote and sell locally grown produce as well as lend a space for businesses engaged in the sale of market, culinary and kitchen products to showcase and sell during the mid-week. In addition, the market now features a weekly “Happy Hour at the Farm” which offers a Beer & Wine Garden along with musical entertainment.
Over the summer, the market moved across the street to JacoPastorius Park on Dixie Hwy. which offers abundant green space to bring your blanket for a picnic in the park. A variety of vendors will offer plenty of choices for dinner and treats under the stars. Mid-Week placement of the market also allows patrons an opportunity to refresh on local produce and products that may not typically make it an entire week to the next weekend market.
In addition to the weekly Discovery Farm Marketplace, the Oakland Park Community Redevelopment Agency will host a monthly Farm to Chef Showcase during the market. The event will launch at 5:30 on November 12th and will continue the second Wednesday of every month through May. The monthly event is designed to celebrate local chefs and restaurants and attract the attention of culinary related businesses (start-up or expansion) to consider the Downtown Oakland Park Culinary Arts District as a potential business location.
The event series offers an hour and half cooking presentation by a different local chef each month. Each month the featured chef will select products from the market and prepare a 3 course meal on stage. Free taster samples from all courses will be distributed to attendees while supplies last, along with recipes cards and an opportunity to meet and greet with the chef. The November 12thfeatured Chef is Jacob Durham of Green Spot Kitchen, located at 1506 E. Commercial Blvd, 754.223.5558,
Recipes will also be available online at and each event.
