Social Committee Meeting
June 12, 2006
Garage Sale Recap:
Total expenses for all advertising was $253. Residents were charged $3 to participate, and that produced $174. The social committee covered the additional $79. Overall the garage sale was considered a success by all residents. A suggestion for the next sale is to have more signage throughout and around the outside of the neighborhood. Karen sent out a response questionnaire, and about half the residents think we should have another sale in the fall. We will revisit the issue in August or September.
Bingo:
For the first family bingo night, there were 22 people in attendance. A small crowd, but lots of fun!
Teen Movie Night:
13 kids in attendance.
Noah’s Ark:
23 kids came to create their own stuffed animals. Everyone had a great time. Congratulations to Caryn Goodson for winning the Grande Prize of a party for 8! It is undecided if we will do this event in the future.
Charity Walk:
The walk is scheduled for July 15th. So far only 10 people signed up, but we are expecting around 50. We have a Starbucks in the area that is going to possibly donate and walk with us. We are getting our T Shirts supplied by a Gib Dugan, owner of Pinnacle Athletics and a resident of GrandePark. Thanks Gib! We are also receiving donations from Dick Pond Athletic, Ladies Workout Express, and Naperville Running Club. RSVPs are due by June 17th to Beth Sims.
Teen Pool Party:
Scheduled for June 23rd. 17 kids signed up so far. We will have a local band performing for a small fee, and there will be pizza and pop provided.
Safety Day:
Was scheduled for June 25th, but we have to postpone until the end of summer. We were unable to get the Plainfield Police Department, so we are going to reschedule for sometime in August. At that time we will have the fire department and the police department, as well as a ice cream social ,and possibly a moon jump.
Meet Your Business Neighbor:
Scheduled for July 23rd. The last day to RSVP is July 15th. First 15 to RSVP will have the choice if they would like to set up in the clubhouse, or on the grounds outside. Each business owner is responsible for their own area, including bringing their own tables, chairs, tents, etc.
New Resident Meet and Greet:
Scheduled for July 9th, 2-4 pm. Michelle and Laura will host the event, with light snacks provided. We will provide information to new residents, including directory information, playgroup information, social committee information, and answer any questions new residents have.
Discovery Toys Party:
Scheduled for July 13th. Laura will be hosting the event for the social committee sponsored party, with all proceeds from the party being used to purchase some new toys for the playgroups at the clubhouse. All RSVPs are due to Laura C.
Kiddie Garage Sale:
We have decided to postpone the event for now. If any residents are really interested in getting this event up and running, please contact a member of the social committee to volunteer!
2ndAnnualGrandePark Halloween Party:
Halloween is less than 6 months away. With the huge turnout last year, we are getting ready to start planning this years event. Volunteers are needed to make this happen! We had 160 kids plus parents last year!!! Those are huge numbers for us to handle and organize. Ideas for this year include a hayrack ride and a haunted clubhouse. We may replace the craft events with games. More to come…..
Directories:
The spring issue of the directories are out! For the next issue, we are going to offer advertising in the back. For a fee, any business owner can place an add for one or two issues at a time. Size and price of ads to be determined. More information on this will be ready, hopefully by the time the Meet your Business Neighbor on July 23rd.
Entrance Signs for the neighborhood:
The signs look great! We are looking for residents to volunteer to take responsibility to maintain one sign at a designated entrance. We need people to maintain the following locations:
135th (Rosewood/Roycroft West)
Plainfield Road
Grande Park Blvd.
Lori D. will communicate the information that needs to be posted via email/phone with the date it needs to be completed.
All Subdivision Playgroup:
For the summer, we will have the playgroup each month at the park. When the weather gets cooler, we will bring it back inside. This will give us some time to get some toys for the clubhouse. For July, we will meet at 9:00 on Friday, July 7th. Laura C. will be out of town, but Lisa S. can be reached for any questions that there may be. Again, we will have residents bring a snack to share.
