1.  Dialectical Journal Assignment: Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass

For this book, you are required to keep a typed dialectical journal with at least 25 entries. You MUST use the format given. I will not accept any other format. Hand written journals will not be accepted. You will be able to download the template from my website to complete your journal.

In this journal you will write down passages from the text that make you think or interest you in some way. You will write your thoughts about each passage. Sample categories are as follows:

(Q) Question- ask about something in the passage that is unclear

(C) Connect- make a connection to your life, the world, or another text

(P) Predict- anticipate what will occur based on what’s in the passage

(R) Reflect- think deeply about what the passage means. What conclusions can you draw?

(E) Evaluate- make a judgment about the characters, their actions, or what the author is trying to say

You should have meaningful entries and responses in your journal. These entries and responses should reflect that of an honors student.

YOU MUST HAVE AT LEAST 1 ENTRY FROM EACH CHAPTER!

2.  Also, read the Elements of Style, 4th Edition (Strunk & White) & type a list of the best 50 facts you learned from the book.

3.  Remember, you must also read The Awakening.
