Funding Arts Network
is a member-supported organization
devoted to enhancing
the cultural environment
of the Miami-Dade community
by providing grants for
visual and performing arts programs

Funding Arts Network (originally known as fifty over fifty) is a non-profit all volunteer organization dedicated to supporting and enhancing the visual and performing arts in Miami-Dade County. Through member-supported grants to arts organizations, Funding Arts Network (FAN) provides funding for performances and exhibits that reach our community’s diverse audiences. FAN also conducts capacity-building workshops for grant applicants; and fosters arts involvement, appreciation and awareness among its members through stimulating, quarterly forums.

FAN is recognized locally and nationally for its professionalism and its governance. It is acknowledged as an excellent model of a philanthropic giving circle. Business Magazines, such as “Barrons”, have featured FAN. Deborah Hoffman, the organization’s founding president, and Terry Schechter, past president, both received the “Serving the Arts” award for FAN’s support of the visual and performing arts in Miami Dade County. Past president Rachel Blechman partnered with The John L. and James S. Knight Foundation to present the Knight/FAN new work award.

The grant funding pool is comprised of the annual contributions of corporate and individual members. Now in its nineteenth year FAN as awarded over three and a half million dollars in grants to performing and visual arts organizations in Miami-Dade County.

Funding Arts Network conducts an annual competitive grants program. To be considered, each applicant must: a) have a primary mission of presenting visual or performing arts programs to the public, b) request funding for a program which is within its primary mission, and will take place in Miami–Dade County during the designated, one-year period c) have completed at least thirty-six months of operation presenting visual or performing arts programs to the public d) be an active, not-for-profit, Florida corporation, in good standing or a division or unit of such. Eligible applicants are then evaluated by our screening committee, which makes recommendations to our membership. The final awards are determined by a vote of the members. FAN encourages member participation in the screening process and provides training in grant evaluation.

FAN has provided its members annually with the opportunity to participate in a five-week in-depth examination of a discipline (visual arts, music, dance, theater) funded by FAN’s grant awards. The program is called FANfare.

At quarterly membership meetings in October, December, March and May members have an opportunity to interact with leaders in the arts community; listen to lively discussions about new trends, developments and important issues affecting the arts; and learn more about the grant recipient organizations.

  • Funding Arts Network is a 501(c)(3) organization. All contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
  • FL. Division of Consumer Services Registration Number SC-0815
  • 100% of your contribution is allocated to the annual grant pool.

The arts have a positive impact on the Miami-Dade economy. With government funds for the arts shrinking, private support is more important than ever. We make a difference in the cultural and economic health of our community.
