INFINITI TO IMMERSE GENEVA VISITORS IN NEW MOTOR SHOW ‘VR’ EXPERIENCE

·  ‘IQ’ VR experience will let users explore the new INFINITI Q50 in a photo-real virtual environment

·  Pioneering technology combines custom-built HTC VIVE™ VR headsets with Bose® noise-cancelling technology

·  INFINITI to publicly release ‘IQ’ VR experience later in 2017

Hong Kong – INFINITI will pioneer an immersive new virtual reality (VR) experience at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show. Showcased on the company’s stand, the ‘IQ’ VR experience is designed to connect customers with the new INFINITI Q50 sports sedan in an unexpected way.

From 9 March, 2017, visitors to INFINITI’s motor show stand at the Geneva exhibition will be invited to briefly abandon the real world and their motor show surroundings for a newly-created virtual environment. The system uses a custom-made INFINITI ‘IQ’ headset equipped with HTC VIVE™ VR technology and the latest noise cancelling technology from INFINITI’s global audio partner, Bose®.

INFINITI is the first company to bring a fully mobile interactive VR experience to a motor show, with the custom-built headset and noise-cancelling audio system. With a powerful backpack computing system, the ‘IQ’ experience lets users freely explore a dedicated area on the INFINITI stand, without being attached by wire to their surroundings.

The ‘IQ’ system employs cutting-edge photogrammetry to create a photo-realistic natural environment for INFINITI fans to explore, and urges them to move forward on a path of discovery. At the end of the interactive experience, players find the new INFINITI Q50 and are able to explore its new features, such as the ProPILOT autonomous drive technologies, handcrafted cabin, and new exterior design.

Melissa Bell, Senior Director, INFINITI Global Marketing said: “We created a VR experience for INFINITI fans at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit earlier this year, and more than 1,000 visitors queued up to take part. It’s a fun and engaging experience to encourage automotive fans to learn more about INFINITI, and enables us to demonstrate in a virtual ‘hands-on’ way how many of the Q50’s new technologies operate.”

The INFINITI ‘IQ’ VR experience has been engineered by an eight-strong team of creative experts from The Pulse, a Sydney-based virtual reality company. The landscape created for users to explore is the result of an extensive photo shoot in the stunning New Zealand countryside. CG assets were built from the scanning process and combined with photogrammetry projection techniques, the team created stunning, physically accurate, photo-realistic representations of the locations.

Brett Heil, Managing Director, The Pulse said: “INFNITI came to us with a dream brief. They wanted to create an experience where people could engage with the brand in a totally new and immersive way. We were thrilled by the public’s reaction in Detroit and Geneva will take it to a whole new level.

INFINITI will make the ‘IQ’ VR experience publicly available on the Steam platform later this year, for users around the world to download.
