The World’s Leading Data Scientists to Convene in San Francisco in August to Advance Data’s Use to Drive Valuable Business, Science and Social Change

22nd Annual ACM SIGKDD Conference Chairs and Speakers Include Leaders from Amazon, Facebook, Google, IBM, LinkedIn, Major Global Universities and Dozens More

NEW YORK, NY--(TBD) - The Association of Computing Machinery's Special Interest Group for Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (ACM SIGKDD), the world’s oldest and largest community for data mining, data science and analytics, today announced its 22nd annual conference will take place Aug. 13-17, 2016 at the Hilton Hotel in San Francisco, CA. The event’s main focus is to connect the world’s best data scientists with one another in order to discuss, address and advance the application of data science to benefit all aspects of society.

“Each and every year, the best data thinkers come together at KDD, present their latest work and findings and discuss how to approach the greatest opportunities and challenges that knowledge discovery and data mining are the key to tapping into and solving. No other conference brings these leaders together as closely in an altruistic way dedicated to the evolution and output of the profession. KDD also continues to stand out as the launch pad for some of data science’s foundational technologies and breakthroughs. We are proud of that unique distinction,” said Mohak Shah, General Chair, KDD.

This year’s chair committee includes leaders from Amazon, Arizona State University, Barclays, Baidu, Bosch - USA, CMU, Corporate Innovation, Criteo, Dstillery, EV Analysis, Facebook, Google, IBM, IJS, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Nanjing University, National Taiwan University, NEA, OpenGov, Seasonal View, Stanford, Stonybrook University, Oxford University, Tshinghua University, University of California – Berkeley, University of California – Los Angeles, University of Chicago, University of Haifa, University of Washington, University of Southern California and Yahoo Labs.

The committee is responsible for bringing together top researchers and practitioners to explore opportunities to leverage data science in socially relevant areas such as security, geotargeting, public health, medicine, urbanization, climate change and geopolitical disparity. Curated content ensures attendees are exposed to unique work being pioneered by their peers.

“This year, KDD will feature dozens of keynotes, research, industry and government track papers, invited talks, tutorials and workshops, as well as the prestigious KDD CUP challenge prize. What most don’t know is how competitive peer-to-peer review of content is at KDD. Only 20 percent of submissions are accepted. This ensures the KDD dialog is the best - whether it is about data-centric puzzles as heavy as global terrorism, cancer research and the future of artificial intelligence or much more discrete subjects such as how we move around and maintain everyday fitness and health, or how to best enjoy and traverse across our physical-digital landscapes. More than ever before, we expect the takeaways to be substantial,” said Shah.

This year’s 4 keynote speakers include: Jennifer Chayes, Distinguished Scientist and Managing Director, Microsoft Research, Joe Hellerstein, Professor, University of California, Berkeley Nando de Freitas,

Professor, Oxford University, and Greg Papadopoulos, Venture Partner, NEA. Other speakers will be announced and updated on the event site soon.

In conjunction with the content that KDD’s chair committee independently curates, several companies underwrite the overall event experience, funding of prizes and networking functions. To date, KDD has received underwriter pledges from Adobe Systems, Inc., Baidu, Drawbridge, eBay, Inc., IBM, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Point Inside, Robert Bosch LLC., Silicon Valley Data Science, Tableau Software and Uber.
