A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND MR. “SKIPP” PEARSON FOR HIS EXTRAORDINARY CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE WORLD OF JAZZ MUSIC AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON HIS OUTSTANDING CAREER AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS.
Whereas, Thales Thomas “Skipp” Pearson, a noted saxophonist and native of Orangeburg, South Carolina, and his music are highlighted in a new South Carolina Educational Television special entitled “Skipp Pearson: The Gift of Jazz”; and
Whereas, “Skipp” Pearson began his musical career at age fifteen, and after attending South Carolina State College, he became a member of the United States Armed Forces Band and a member of the South Carolina National Guard Band; he was inducted into the South Carolina State College Hall of Fame in 1990 and has played with such jazz greats as Patti LaBelle, Clyde McPhatter, Jerry Butler, and Wynton Marsalis; and
Whereas, the first performance in the television special is by “SPS” (Skipp Pearson’s Special group); the name Pearson applies to unique groupings of musicians he forms for special events, and although they do not play together regularly, they unite to “spread the music;” and
Whereas, Mr. Pearson describes “Skipp Pearson and Jazzology” as primarily an “entertaining” group that interacts with the audience; and
Whereas, “Skipp” Pearson’s third group, the “HunterGatherer House Band,” has very few rehearsals and they rely on what Pearson terms “musical conditioning” to pass vibes on to each other; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are proud to recognize the wonderful talents of Mr. “Skipp” Pearson and hope that all South Carolinians will have the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate the work of this truly gifted son of the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the South Carolina House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend Mr. “Skipp” Pearson for his extraordinary contributions to the world of jazz music and congratulate him on his outstanding career and accomplishments.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. “Skipp” Pearson of Orangeburg, South Carolina.
