Training Session Assignment
English 302
Corey
One of the many tasks you may be asked to perform would be to conduct a training session for some group of people (or birds!). For instance, the training session could be for newly hired employees. Some of you might have already given little “Welcome to your first day at Wendy’s” type of training. This assignment will be similar. You will work with your group to devise a presentation/training session, a part of which will be given to the rest of the class.
The assignment has 2 parts.
Part 1: Preparing the Training Session
Design a training session on one of the following topics: topics may be picked from a hat!
q Listening skills
q Diversity/Discrimination
q Email policies/procedures/etiquette
q Office apparel
q Orientation for new employees
q Professionalism
q Workplace Safety/ Wellness
q Harassment
Your group will need to put together an outline for the session. Items like this are often handed out before the session begins and outlines how the day(s) will proceed. Some things to think about:
q Length of training
o 1 hour, 3 hours, 1/2 day, full day, more
o Use the length to determine other factors in the next two categories
q Schedule of events
o Role play
o PowerPoint presentation
o Small/large group discussions
o Survey/questionnaire
o Guest speakers
o Panel discussion
q Breaks
o List breaks and when
o Lunch, coffee
o Transition time from one area to another
An outline detailing this information will be due Friday Nov. 3
Part 2: Presentation
Your group will give a portion of the training session to the rest of the class.
q I will need a brief synopsis of your training session and the portion you will present to the class. For the synopsis:
o What material you plan to cover
o Goals for the training session
q Plan on a 15-20 minute session (this may be only a small part of your overall session)
q You must use some sort of visual aid for your session. Visual aids could include, but are not limited to such things as: PowerPoint, charts, small group training material, handouts, sets of instructions, role-playing material.
q You will also need to prepare an evaluation form to be given to your audience. Evaluation form should cover material you presented.
q Burn your presentation material onto a CD and give it to me at the end of your session.
