SYLLABUS FOR ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN PLANT BIOTECHNOLOGY- IIIrd YEAR (Sem V) (ADD. ON COURSE)

Theory Paper

Max. Marks 60 Lecture to be delivered: 50

Time allowed: 3 Hrs. (Each of 45 minutes duration)

Pass Marks 35% of the subject, Theory Periods/week: 3

And practical separately.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PAPER SETTER

The question paper will consist of three sections: A, B and C. Sections A and B will have four questions each from the respective section of the syllabus and will carry 7 marks each. Section C will consist of 7 short answer questions that will cover the entire syllabus and will be of 1 marks each. Use of scientific non-programmable calculator is allowed.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CANDIDATES

Candidates are required to attempt two questions from each of sections A and B. Entire section C is compulsory.

Section A

Plant cell and tissue culture – laboratory requirements for plant tissue culture, cell culture and its applications, clonal propagation or micro propagation, cell and organ differentiation,other uses of tissue culture. Production and uses of haploids.

Section B

Transgenic plants for crop improvement (dicot and Monocot including Maize, Rice, Wheat etc. Resistance to herbicide, insecticide, virus and other diseases, Flaour save tomato etc. barnase and barstar). Transgenic plants for molecular farming.

Practicals Diploma in Plant Biotechnology- IIIrd year

Maxm. Marks 40 Time Allowed: 4 hours.

01.  Callus formation.

02.  Culturing of blue-green algae.

03.  Development of synthetic seeds.

Project report: Related to any topic in the syllabus.
