INVERNESS REPORT – JULY 2011

On the whole the weather this month was not one would expect for a summer month even up here, mostly overcast with terrific amounts of rain!
It was also the month when the Scottish Open Golf came to Castle Stuart for the first time which brought us a nice batch of business jets for the week. I am told that no aircraft for the golf was refused due to lack of parking, but certainly Falcon 7X M-CELT had to drop and go to return later for its passengers having spent its time parked up in Aberdeen. An Avanti on delivery was persuaded to go to Edinburgh, however this could well have been that there was no hotel room to be found! I think a big thank you is due to apron ops for squeezing everything in even parking the odd aircraft around by the hangars! As for the golf next year it is currently a bit of a worry. The PGA tour had booked the event here for 3 years, but it is possible that Barclays may withdraw their sponsorship, a decision on that will be promised soon and we are all hopeful.
The film-makers arrived with a very vintage C-130A, N121TG the pilot of which flew it in Vietnam as 56-0511! Bandierante ZS-NVB was also here for the project and was somewhat secretive in its movements, being hidden in hangar 1 a lot of the time in an overall grey scheme.
I thought it looked more impressive like that, but the lady flying it couldn’t wait for it to be returned to its white scheme. The film company were particularly protective of the aircraft asking people not to take pictures of it. I have pictures of both the C130 and Bandierante, but wishing to comply with their request I won’t post them until the film is released, not wanting to spoil it for them. They must have a very good reason, although I can’t see it myself! The fuselage of G-EDAY didn’t seem to come back as expected although I have seen pictures of JS31 fuselages in a Glen to the south of here, and there was an unidentified JS.31 fuselage, disguised as a Bandierante at the airport for a short while. It is no secret that a lot of filming was carried out around Ben Wyvis and Feshie Bridge and some involved Puma HB-XVY which stubbornly stayed in Alness, refusing to come to Inverness for fuel, so I guess it didn’t fly much. Not being an avid newspaper reader, I won’t comment on reports in the now defunct News of the World about the Hercules landing on a road in the Highlands which was a “rumour” here for a while and made a good story, but I don’t think they checked their facts before printing. I hope their source got paid well, I have my suspicions!
I was in my element this month now that Dassault have sorted out their Falcon 7X when 5 visited Inverness, 4 of which were 1st visits. On the subject of “biz” jets there were 120 visits by 96 different aircraft, 27 here for the first time. We just can’t seem to hit the magic 100!

2nd: Contactair sent a 3rd new Fokker 100 today with D-AFKF in Star Alliance colours, and smart Falcon 900EX N240LG spent the day at Inverness. Robin G-BTRU is an ex resident and returned for a short visit, while the Naples charter brought 737 SP-HAA.
3rd: It was an absolute scorcher today and there were 3 1st visits. Bandierante ZS-NVB departed, but we did have another visitor from the Southern Hemisphere when the rather splendid EC.130 ZK-IGM called in for fuel. The other two were Global 5000 N352AF and Gulfstream V N526EE.
4th: It was another cracking day up here, and unusually 3 Netjet Ce 550s visited today, a type of theirs that has been infrequent of late. There were also 3 first visits with SR22 N40GD, N749ME a Gulf 3 and Ce 560XL, G-PEPE.
5th: Lots of comings and goings for the Scottish Open Golf on a warm, but not as bright day. There were 4 first visits, one of which, G-MGNE was a first visit of type, being a Phenom 300.
6th: The ‘biz fest’ continues on a miserable and wet day bringing Falcon 900EX N47EG, Vistajet Lear 60 OE-GVV and Swiss Challenger HB-JRG for their 1st visits to Inverness.
7th: Good grief! Nothing new today!
8th: An approach by Tucano ZF338 was a first visit as was Falcon 900 N900BK.
9th: Horrendous rain and thunder put paid to the golf today, but one new visitor that made it through was a CJ2 M-ICRO2.
10th: The last day of the Scottish Open and one of the busiest days we have ever had including two new visitors, D-CRBE, a Lear 45 and Citation PH-LAB.
13th: Very nice of C-17 ZZ177 to make an approach in the sun today and Koala N119JT has had a makeover since it was here last.
14th: Just a new Citation X N759HG on a pleasantly warm summer’s day.
15th: A great treat today with our third pair of Moroccan Texans on delivery, TM/13 and TN/14, and very smart Gulfstream 4SP N7LA.
16th: Nothing new today, but a repeat of last week’s lightning, thunder and rain delaying the flights.
17th: Drier today, only note being there is an additional EZY Luton today which will operate to September 4th.
18th: New visitor today was EC-JZK, Citation 560XLS.
22nd: Three new today with TBM 850 LX-JFL, Learjet 60 N10MB and Falcon 7X OY-EKC.
23rd: King Air G-DLAL and Robin 3000 G-ENNI were new to Inverness today.
24th: That was a splendid day both weather wise and for aircraft! First in was the very elegant Falcon 7X HB-JZS which was followed by two very stealthy looking King Airs, C-GTDS and C-GVDS. Cessna 208s are very uncommon here so D-FAAJ was very welcome on its way to Iceland. Finally a nice treat was the C-47 N1944A which overflew from Kemble to Wick. Sadly, after some time in the UK this was off to the USA, so we were lucky to catch a glimpse of it.
26th: Just two visitors today of which one, LX-LAB a PC12 was a first visit.
27th: Sunshine at last, and on a busier day N450JE Gulf 4SP and Avanti N159PA made 1st visits.
28th: The sun didn’t last long, back to grey skies today, but there was another new visitor with CJ3 N28DM.
29th: A grey start to the day, but it turned into a real cracker. There were two more new to us today with Falcon 900C N900RX and Easyjet G-EZGN.
30th: Another nice warm, sunny and very busy day, with a rather nice Italian Falcon 2000LX as well!
31st: A bit of a grey day, and by the end the North apron looking quiet bare! Two Falcon 7X in one day, one of which, G-CGGN on a first visit. Fearn based FRED G-ORAS called in for its first visit, as did Cessna 175A, and late on Mooney M.20K N2BL.

Jetstream G-JXTA has been here from 01.10.2007, it still remains following the demise of Highland Airways, and currently looking the worse for wear!
