The Honorable Nancy Parr informed the Team that she has been appointed to Governor McAuliffe’s Task Force on Prescription Drug and Heroin Abuse and will be sitting on its Enforcement subcommittee. As the Team is reviewing child deaths due to poisoning, many of which involve opiate abuse, Ms. Parr invited Team members to share with her any information or issues that they would like taken back to the Task Force.

Ms. Maribel Saimre announced that the Virginia Department of Education received a grant from the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to develop integrated mental health support in three school districts (Fairfax County, Montgomery County and Pulaski County). The Department will develop a multi-tiered model that integrates a comprehensive systems approach for addressing mental health needs of children and youth and increasing efficacy of service delivery.
