B. JOB PURPOSE

To assist professional staff in the provision of quality occupational therapy services thereby contributing towards optimal health care.

D. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Work under the guidance and supervision of the occupational therapist.
  2. Deliver self-care and rehabilitation equipment to the patient.
  1. Adjust equipment to suit patient’s needs.
  2. Construct and fit aids, including splints.
  3. Observe the use and suitability of the patient’s equipment and diversional therapy.
  4. Carry out routine maintenance of equipment such as cleaning and routine testing.
  5. Lift, transfer and assist in moving patients for treatment in accordance with safe practices.
  6. Observe and report problems to supervisor.
  7. Promote communication to and with patients, including the provision of basic primary health education.
  8. Collect, maintain and interpret the required records, statistics and information.
  9. Provide informal in-service training within area of expertise and guidance, to untrained assistants working in the department.
  10. Maintain good housekeeping (orderliness, hygiene and cleanliness) in the department.
  11. Report any unusual circumstances that have an impact on service delivery.
