ESAP2 Most Significant Change Story Competition 2015

The ESAP2 Management Agency (MA) is rewarding Social Accountability Implementing Partners (SAIPs) for their documentation and communication efforts. We will award prizes at the National SA Conference in October 2015 in three categories: Participatory Video Oscar, SAC hero, and Most Significant Change (MSC). This paper describes how you can participate in the MSC competition.

The winning MSC stories will be published and used for SA promotion in a future SA program.

Theme: Service improvements –the most significant change in service delivery that has been achieved in your SA project, its impact, and how SA made it happen

Task:

  • Work together with the woreda coordinator, M&E officer and/or Project Manager (the authors). This will make the MSC story as rich as possible in terms of the SA work of the SAIP.
  • The authors will select one woreda and one sector that represent the most significant change in service delivery that has been achieved in their SA project.
  • The authors will identify stakeholders that have a story to tell about the selected service improvement. They will interview these service users, vulnerable groups, women, service providers, sector officers, Kebele/woreda administration, elected council members, etc. This will make the MSC story as rich as possible in terms of the benefits of the service improvement and the impact on stakeholders.
  • Take 3-5 pictures (JPEG file) to illustrate your MSC story, including one picture of the woreda coordinator (together with M&E and PC if possible), one picture of service users that experience better services, and one picture of the service providers who are now providing better services (at the facility where possible).
  • Draft one most significant change story of 1000-1500 words, using the format provided. Submit the draft together with your pictures latest 31th May, 2015. You will receive feedback with which you can improve your MSC story and pictures if needed.
  • Finalize your MSC hero story and pictures for submission latest 31th July, 2015.

How can you have a better chance of winning?

Stick to the theme and task described above. Your MSC story has to clearly illustrate the service improvement results, impact of the improved services for service users, and how SA made it happen. Use direct, interesting quotes from the people your have interviewed, to illustrate your story.

Make use of the opportunity we offer to get feedback to the draft MSC format and the quality of your pictures. The MA is always ready to help you.

You can earn bonus points by engaging in following additional activities:

  • Collaborate with FTA for dissemination of the story;
  • Get the story produced in local media;
  • Get the woreda coordinator, M&E Officer or PC interviewed on radio/TV/newspaper or printed media;
