Contracts

Payandcontracts

Salarypaymentswillbeonthelastbusinessdayofeachmonth,inarrears. TheusualmethodofpaymentwillbeBACSdirectlyintoaUKbankaccount. ForstaffwithoutaUKbankaccountwewillmakeonepaymentwithin2weeksoftheendofthemonthafteryourcontractsisfinished. Thiswillbecrediteddirectlyintoyouroverseasbankaccount,howeverchargeswillapply. Shouldyouprefertobepaidbysterlingchequethiscanbearrangedprovidedthisisnotifiedtousinwritingattheoutsetofyourcontract. Holidaypayiscalculatedat12.07%.Contractsfornewstaffareusuallyfor4weeksextendabletosixweeksbymutualconsent.Weexpectalotofeffortandhighstandardsfromourstaff,butweendeavourtocontinuallyimproveemploymentconditionsandarenevercomplacent.Wewelcomeanysuggestionsforimprovementsinanyarea.

Allseniorstudentshavefourandahalfhoursofactivitiesfourtimesperweek(Mon,Tue,Thuand

Fri).Juniorstudentshavethreeandahalfhoursofactivitiesfourtimesperweek(Mon,Tue,Thuand

Fri). Forthefirstpartofeachafternoonthiscouldbe:

•Academysports(athletics,badminton,basketball,fencing,football,golf,hockey,riding,rugby,squash,swimming,tennisortetrathlon)withspecialistcoachingfromqualifiedcoaches,supportedbyactivitystaff.

•Non‐sportingacademies(chess,dance,fashionfineart,etiquette,film,journalism,rock,classicalmusic,musicaltheatre,youngadventurers,photography,youngleaders/entrepreneursorcooking)withspecialisttuitionbyqualifiedstaff,supportedbyactivitystaff.

•SportandRecreation(participationinavarietyofsportingandnon‐sportingactivitiessuchasteamgames,crafts,art,judo,dance,aerobics,tennis,archeryandmanymore.Ledandsupportedbyactivitystaff.

Thisisfollowedbyclubtime(onehour).

•Clubs: Studentstakepartinclubswhicharebasedontheskillsandinterestsofstaff. Inthepastwehavehadclubsinmusic,computing,wildlifeandecology,rambling,keep‐fit,origamiandmanyothers.

Additionaldutiesforallstaff

•Houseduties: Assistingpastoralstaffwithsupervisioninboardinghousesonarotabasis.

•Socialprogramme: Assistingpastoralstaffwiththesocialprogrammeintheeveningsonarotabasis.

•Sundays: Onarrivalanddeparturedaystheactivitystaffwillberesponsibleforairportduties(escortingstudentstoandfromairports);pastoralstaffandteachingstaffarerequiredtowelcomenewstudents,sayfarewelltothosedepartingand/orentertainstudentswhoarenotinvolvedinarrivalordeparture. Inthemorningsthestudentsareinvolvedinanextraacademiccluborfriendlygamesandpasttimes.Theafternoonactivitiesaretypicallyatriptothecinema,awalkupGlastonburyTor,atriptoClarksshoppingvillageinStreetetc.

•Reportwriting:Studentreports,minutesofmeetings,dailylogsetc.everyonewillbewritingsomeformofreports.

•Communicationsiskeyandtherewillbemeetingstoensurethecommunicationchannelsareworkingcorrectlyforthebenefitofall.

Timeoff

Summerschoolsarealwaysbusy,theyareshortintensivecoursesanditisnormalforyoungstudentstobeexcitedandfullofenergy. Ourpolicyistokeepthembusyandactiveatalltimes. Thishelpspreventhome‐sickness,helpsthemmakefriendswithasmanydifferentpeopleaspossible,practisetheirspokenEnglishandensuretheyhaveamemorableandworthwhileexperience. This‘full‐on’programmerequirescommitmentandalotofhardworkfromallstaff. Allsummerschoolsrequirealotofdedicationandcommitmentfromeveryoneinvolvedbutonememberofactivitystaffwhohasworkedforusforfiveyearshasdescribeditas“thebestsummerholidayjobintheworld”. Wehavearrangedthetimetabletotryandensureeachbodyofstaffcanenjoysufficientdown‐timetorechargetheirownbatteries. Staffcanexpectonedayoffaweek.

Activitystaff: DayoffSaturdaywhilsttheEFLteachingstafftakelessonsinthemorningandahalfdayexcursionintheafternoon. Sometimeoffinmorningsandeveningsduringtheweek.

Domesticarrangements

Accommodationisavailableonourowncampuses;youwillusuallybegivensingleandoftenen‐suiteaccommodation. Bedlinenisprovidedweekly. TowelsareNOTprovided. Roomsarecleanedsixdayseachweek. Washinganddryingmachinesareavailableintheboardinghouses. Threemealsadayareprovidedinthedininghall,cateringforspecificdiets.TheseconsistofHotandcoldbreakfasts,twomeatandonevegetarianchoiceforlunchwithsaladbar,pastachoices,freshfruitandtraditionalsweetscookedonsite. Furtherchoicesareavailablefordinner. Eachboardinghousehasakitchenwithasupplyofbiscuitsanddrinks.

Informationaboutthestudents

Wehavegrowninsizeyearonyearandsince2011havereceived1100+studentsoverthecourseofsixweeks.Studentscomefromallovertheworldusuallyfrombetween55‐60differentcountries.Studentsareaged6‐11yearsatGlastonburycampusand12–17yearsatStreetBruton.TheyarriveanddepartonSundaysandstayfor2,3,4or6weeks.

Onarrivalanddeparturedaystheactivitystaffhaveresponsibilityforairportduties;pastoralstaffandteachingstaffarerequiredtowelcomenewstudentsorentertainstudentswhoarenotinvolvedinarrivalsordepartures.

OnthefirstMondayafterarrivalallstudentsaretestedtoassesstheirlevelofEnglishandareputintothecorrectlevel. Theyaregivenatourofthecampuswhilsttestsaremarkedandthenputintotheirfirstclassassoonaspossible.

ThenearesttrainstationisCastleCary(LondonPaddingtontoCastleCarycantakeaslittleas1hr40minutes). TherearetaxisatthestationandabusthatstopsoutsideofMillfield.

BristolTempleMeadsisthenearestcitytrainstationandyoucancatchaservicebusjustoutsidethestationviaWellstoStreet.ThereisaservicebusstopoutsideMillfieldSchool. WearelocatedontheedgeofthesmalltowncalledStreet,andthehighstreetisapproximatelyhalfamileaway.Ifyourbusdoesn’tstopoutsidetheschoolthereisabusstopoutsidethelibraryinStreetandataxirankinthesameroad.
