Belkin to USB to Serial Adapter Instructions

  1. Installation
  2. Follow the directions that come with the adapter for your operating system
  3. Connecting the computer to the CTS
  4. Make sure you have properly and completely installed the software that came with the adapter
  5. With both the computer & the CTS off, plug the adapter into a available USB port
  6. Connect the serial cable that came with the CTS to the adapter
  7. Connect the other end of the cable to the CTS labeled “Port 1”
  8. Turn on both devices
  9. Completing the interface
  10. Make sure CTS is in “Reset Mode”
  11. Once it is on, select “Swimming”
  12. On the Computer open “Meet Manager”
  13. Select “Run”
  14. From “Interface” Menu,Mouseover “Timer (Cts6)”
  15. Select “Open/Close Serial Port for CTS6”
  16. Enter “4” for the Port number
  17. Click “OK”
  18. Meet Manager then test communications
  19. If it passes you are good to go
  20. If it fails go to section IV.
  21. When things go wrong
  22. Determining what port the adapter configured itself on
  23. Close all programs
  24. Go to “Control Panel”
  25. In windows 95, 98, ME, 2000
  26. Start Button  Settings  Control Panel
  27. In Windows XP
  28. Start Button  Control panel
  29. Double Click “System”
  30. Select “Hardware” tab
  31. Click “Device Manager”
  32. Click the plus (+) next to “Ports (COM & LTP)”
  33. You should see “Belkin Serial on USB Port (COM”X”)”
  34. The “X” is the port the adapter is configured on
  35. If the above port number is 8 or less then go to Step III. e. and put the above number in place of “4”, communications should pass
  36. If the assigned port is greater than 8
  37. Right click on “Belkin Serial on USB Port (COM”X”)”
  38. from the menu select “Properties”
  39. Select the “Port Setting” tab
  40. Click “Advanced”
  41. Near the bottom of the new window there is a drop down menu “COMPort Number”
  42. Select “COM8”
  43. Click OK twice
  44. Go to Step III. e. and enter 8 for “Port Number”
  45. If communication passes, you are good to go
  46. If communication does not pass, then repeat the process working backwards from “COM8” always testing whatever port you have configured.
