Assistant Controller

Nott Autocorp Ltd is looking to hire a full time Assistant Controller to join our winning team. The successful candidate must have a high attention to detail, strong computer skills and a positive attitude. The Assistant Controller ensures the accurate and efficient recording of the company’s accounting services including payroll, accounts payable, invoicing, and financial management. This position reports directly to the controller. Preference will be given to applicants with an accounting designation (or working towards an accounting designation) and a minimum of 2 years of related experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

Payroll

  • Enter time cards and commissions for semi-monthly processing
  • Process new employee hires and terminations including the management of their group insurance coverage.

Payables

  • Processing, coding and entering of accounts payable ensuring timeliness and accuracy of information
  • Reconcile supplier statements to our accounting records
  • Process payment to suppliers either by cheque, visa or wire transfer
  • Recording EFT withdrawals by vendors

Vehicle purchases

  • Process purchases of vehicles, ensuring proper inspection paperwork has been processed
  • Arrange for shipping
  • Arrange for wire transfer payment of vehicles

Cash Management

  • Deposit and record all cash receipts
  • Follow up on delinquent payments
  • Prepare monthly margining reports for the bank
  • Update and manage the company’s lease line with the bank

Lease accounting

  • Ensure monthly car lease payments are collected
  • Ensure proper accounting of all leases

Financial Management and reporting

  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
  • Prepare month end financial statements
  • File GST, PST and payroll tax returns monthly

Requirements

  • A diploma/degree in Business Administration or Commerce (preference is a major in accounting or finance)
  • 2-3 years of experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general bookkeeping.
  • Experience with Quickbooks.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Experience with budget, accounting, and reporting systems.
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • High level of integrity, confidentially, and accountability.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in pressure situations with a calm and steady demeanor.
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
  • Excellent teamwork and team building skills.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite.
