A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS HEARTFELT SYMPATHY TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF REVEREND JOHN HENRY ELLISON UPON HIS PASSING AND TO RECOGNIZE HIS EFFORTS TO PREACH THE WORD OF GOD IN NURSING HOMES AND COMMUNITY CENTERS THROUGHOUT THE STATE.
Whereas, the members of the Senate were saddened to learn that the Reverend John Henry Ellison, a remarkable minister, devoted husband, and loving father, passed away at the age of seventy on Wednesday, February 20, 2002 at the Dorn Veterans Medical Center; and
Whereas, John Henry Ellison was born on January 21, 1932, in Clarendon County, South Carolina, son of the late George and Carrie Oliver Ellison; he attended Clarendon County public schools and at a young age proclaimed his faith in God and joined the Elizabeth Baptist Church in Manning, South Carolina; and
Whereas, John Henry Ellison joined the United States Army in 1953 and proudly served his country during the Korean War; after an honorable discharge, Mr. Ellison returned to Clarendon County where he began to build a family and to put in long hours of hard work as a progressive farmer; and
Whereas, John Henry Ellison began his ministry in 1983 and chose to use his talents to preach to those individuals who were unable to travel to weekly church services; Reverend Ellison took it upon himself to minister to the residents of Windsor Manor Nursing Home in Clarendon County, Dorch Community Center in Manning, Carriage Nursing Home and Mariner Nursing Home in Sumter, and Lake Marion Nursing Home in Summerton; and
Whereas, the Reverend John Henry Ellison continued serving the Lord by daily ministering to the residents of these homes until his death; and
Whereas, the Reverend John Henry Ellison is survived by his wife, Sadie Mae Kinder Ellison, his five sons, John, Lenard, Roderick, Rochester, and Richard, his four daughters, MaLinda, Marilyn, Sherry, and Patricia, three brothers, two sisters, sixteen grandchildren, and a greatgrandchild; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate take time to reflect on the life and ministry of the Reverend John Henry Ellison, a man who made it his mission to meet the spiritual needs of countless elderly and disabled South Carolinians until the very day his Lord called him home. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express heartfelt sympathy to the family and many friends of Reverend John Henry Ellison upon his passing and recognize his efforts to preach the word of God in nursing homes and community centers throughout the State.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Sadie Mae Kinder Ellison of Clarendon County.
