Notes
April 4, 2011
The School Board of Culpeper County held a Town Hall meeting on April 4, 2011 at 6 p.m. in the Eastern View High School Forum at 16332 Cyclone Way, Culpeper, VA. Present were George Dasher (Stevensburg District); Elizabeth Hutchins (Cedar Mountain District); Anne Luckinbill (Salem District); Robert Houck (West Fairfax District); Russell E. Jenkins (Catalpa District); Robert Beard (East Fairfax District); and Superintendent Dr. Bobbi Johnson. Leanne Malulani (Jefferson District) was absent.
The School Board fielded questions/comments from those present:
v Heather Ferraiuolo (East Fairfax District) – She expressed concern with the bullying that is happening in middle school. She said if the students were disciplined sooner it may cut down on the bullying.
v Janice Coleman (West Fairfax District) – She asked what faith based clubs are available to students in the middle school.
v Jennifer Richardson (Stevensburg District) - She said there is a huge gap in instruction in math and English; between elementary and middle school. She stated that her son doesn’t qualify for honors or special education because he falls in between the two levels and there is nothing in the middle to help the strugglers.
v Kristie Vick (Stevensburg District) – She asked what the School Board’s plan is to advocate for all children; so no one gets left behind. She said she would love to help with programs in the school division.
v Alfred Duke (East Fairfax District) - He asked the board to describe the role of the guidance counselor in/out of school. He said he would like to see some type of parent/teacher in-service setting where they could discuss certain topics. He asked if the board has looked at external support for the schools – i.e., church.
v Pastor Gregory Simpson with Kingdom of God Deliverance Ministries (West Fairfax District) - He said his church would like to help the youth in the community reach their destiny/goal. He asked members who he could contact to get started.
v Charles Duncan (Jefferson District) – He suggested that previous items brought up at the forum be addressed at the next forum. He also expressed concern that the meeting did not start with the Pledge of Allegiance.
School Board members shared closing remarks relative to the aforementioned items.
The meeting adjourned at 7:47 p.m.
