Dear Parents,
I hope that everyone enjoyed the long Labor Day weekend! I am sure that you make some wonderful memoires with your precious childrenJ
We are looking forward to our Back to School Splash on Saturday, September 12th from 10:00-4:00. Hope that you can make it for some family fun!
The students who are interested in trying out for Student Council turned in their forms on Friday. They will be given an opportunity to give their speeches on Wednesday of this week.
We have two big tests this week. I hope that the students have prepared for the math and science tests. For math, the students have two study guides, workbook pages, worksheets, and their journals to help them prepare. For the science test, the students have already created a packet with a study guide, notes, worksheets and a fold. Each of the tests will be for 100 points.
In computer lab this past week, the students began working on Typing Agent. As we go to the computer lab every other week, the class will be doing a typing program which will help the students learn proper positioning and typing skills.
We have some students who need to brush up on their multiplication skills from the break over the summer. Here are some math websites for continued multiplication practice. Hopefully these will be helpful! www.multiplication.com/games www.free-training-tutorial.com/times-tables-games.html www.ixl.com/math www.ABCya.com
Here are some upcoming activities for our class:
Math – Mrs. Paul’s Class and Mrs. Carr’s Class:
On Tuesday, September 8th the students will have a Unit 1 math test. The students have 2 study guides, workbook pages, worksheets, and their journals to study.
This week with our AMSTI program, we will focus on comparing representations, looking at which product is greater, order of operations, and multiplication cluster problems. The students should continue to take home the journal every day to assist with workbook homework and to study for the upcoming tests. We will continue with the Daily Math Practice each day.
Social Studies– Mrs. Paul’s Class and Mrs. Carr’s Class:
We will continue to focus on Unit 1, Early Life East and West. In Chapter 1 we will look at life in the western hemisphere, early American cultures, and the rise of empires. The students will be working on vocabulary for the chapter, worksheets, a study guide, and an Indian fold.
Science – Mrs. Paul’s Class
This week we will continue to look at convex and concave lenses. The students have already taken notes from a Power Point and read a lesson in the science textbook. They created a fold focusing on refraction, reflection, nearsightedness, farsightedness, and lenses, and will watch some Brain Pop videos, and check a study guide. There will be a test on lenses on Thursday, September 10th.
