Support After Rape & Sexual Violence Leeds (SARSVL) is the Rape Crisis Centre for Leeds, providing independent, confidential support services to women and girls whose lives have been affected by sexual violence of any kind at any time. Our aims include raising awareness and understanding of sexual violence, challenging and changing public attitudes, and reflecting the community we serve by encompassing the diversity of women and girls in Leeds.

SARSVL is a volunteer led organisation with a small staff team. We provide a specialist telephone helpline service, an Advocacy Service with a qualified Independent Sexual Violence Advocate (ISVA) and later this year we will be launching our Counselling Service.

We are now seeking an experienced and committed woman to join SARSVL as a member of staff to support us in rolling out our development plan including establishing our Volunteer Advocate Service.

SARSVL Advocacy Volunteer Co-ordinator

£27,924 per annum plus 5% pension contribution

35 hours per week (full time)

The primary purpose of this role is to work closely with the SARSVL Board and Steering Group, and our ISVA, to implement and oversee a pro-active, volunteer advocate service to support adult women who have experienced sexual violence at any time in their lives.

This role is responsible for the recruitment, training and management of a group of volunteer advocates, ensuring that these volunteer advocates feel involved, engaged and well supported in their role. The post holder will also manage a small advocacy support caseload herself and have a key role in supporting the ongoing development and delivery of SARSVL’s broader volunteer co-ordination strategy.

We have initial funding for 12 months, with a possibility to extend the contract beyond this date dependent on funding and the satisfactory delivery of work.

The post will be located in Leeds city centre.

SARSVL offers services to women and girls who’ve experienced sexual violence within a women-only safe space. It is an occupational requirement under the Equality Act 2010 (Schedule 9, part 1) for this post to be filled only by a woman.

SARSVL is an equal opportunity employer and is seeking qualified candidates who contribute to the diversity of the organisation.
