COMPETITION SCHEDULE
- PRE-FIELD DAY
To be submitted on Wednesday 13th April, 2011 at Preston Patrick Memorial Hall between 7.30 and 9.00pm. Please give the Competitor’s membership number as well as the name of the club on the orange score card to be attached to each entry. Then fold over and seal with the club number.

To be judged on quality of report writing, use of correct format & grammar

Photographs allowed
- Photography (Open) NAFD
Competitors will be required to display a mounted photograph with the caption theme of ‘Grease’. The photograph may be in colour or black & white. The photograph exhibited should be a maximum of A4 size
inclusive of any mounting.
- YFC Club Programme (Open)
To exhibit your YFC Club Programme, 12 months or 6 months acceptable
- Decorated Pair of Wellies (Junior)
Theme:- ‘One Man & His Dog’
- Lakeland Dialect Competition
1 member to write a story including ‘Cumberland & Westmorland Wrestling’, to be written in dialect and performed at the Field Day by the member who wrote it.
- Woodwork – Candlestick (Junior) NAFD
To make a wooden candlestick to the theme ‘Beauty and the Beast’, which may be waxed or polished. To include an A4 story board detailing how it was made and illustrated with photos. The completed candlestick should be no more than 30cm high or
30cm in diameter.
- Woodwork – ‘Oliver’s Bowl’ (Inter) NAFD
To make a wooden bowl, which may be waxed or polished. To include an A4 story board detailing how it was made and illustrated with photos. The completed bowl should be no more than 30cm x 30cm.
- Woodwork – ‘Milking Stool’ (Senior) NAFD
To make a wooden milking stool to the theme of ‘Oklahoma’, which may be waxed or polished. To include an A4 story board detailing how it was made and illustrated with photos. The completed milking stool should be no more than 40cm x 40cm x 40cm.
- YFC Comic Strip (Open) NAFD
Competitors to hand draw 3 cells. The 3 cells displayed can be black & white or in colour. No computer graphics are permitted. Overall 3 cells should fit on one A4 sheet maximum.
- Ticket to a Disney Musical (Junior) NAFD
Competitors will be required to hand draw a ticket to a Disney Musical. Competitors may use computers for text only. Maximum size is A5. (Pencil, pen, pastel and paint permitted).
- Programme Cover for a Disney Musical (Inter) NAFD
Competitors will be required to hand draw a programmer cover to a Disney Musical. Competitors may use computers for text only. Maximum size is A5. (Pencil, pen, pastel and paint permitted).
- Decorate a Souvenir T-Shirt for a Disney Musical (Senior) NAFD
Competitors will be required to hand decorate a plain t-shirt in a design which is representative of a souvenir to a Disney Musical. Competitors may use computers for text only. (Pencil, pen & paint permitted).
- A3 Fashion Board (Inter) NAFD
Competitors will be required to produce an A3 board which should contain:-
- A hand drawn picture of an outfit to be worn at an awards ceremony, including colour;
- Samples of materials intended to make the outfit with;
- A computer generated/sourced picture of any accessories;
- Summary detailing how the outfit will be made.
The exhibit is to be one sided. The artwork may be mounted, but must not be framed. The title of the outfit is to be on the board and must be within the A3 size allowed.
- A2 Fashion Board (Open) NFYFC
Competitors will be required to produce an A3 fashion mood board which should contain:-
- A hand drawn picture of a costume from a musical of their own choice, including colour.
- Samples of the materials intended for the costume
- A computer generated/sourced picture of any accessories
- Summary of the picture to show why and what you have drawn.
The exhibit is to be one sided. The artwork may be mounted, but must not be framed. The title of the outfit is to be on the board and must be within the A2 size allowed.
- Metal Work – ‘Something Old Into Something New’ (Senior)
Max Size – 50cm x 50cm x 50cm
- Computer Generated Leaflet (Open)
A leaflet to be used to promote your club to new members. Maximum size when completed A4.
- FIELD DAY
- Treasurers Competition
Club treasurer to supply notebook of transactions, cash book, cheque book, paying in book and bank statements to the last one issued. Judged by examination of books & short interview. 15 minutes per competitor.
- Club Report typed ready for the Year Book
Report to be typed ready for the year book and CD copy (which must accompany the report when submitted on the day). Points deducted if CD is not provided.
- Decorated Iced Cake (Open) NAFD
Competitors will be required to display a decorated iced cake in the theme of the Wizard of Oz. Dummy cakes are permitted. Any type of icing is permitted. Handmade accessories allowed. Cake must fit in a space maximum of 30cm x 30cm with unlimited height.
- Decorated Cup Cakes (Junior) NAFD
Competitors will be required to make and display four cupcakes decorated in the theme of the Lion King. There is no size restriction on the cupcakes but they must fit within a maximum space of 30cm x 30cm. Any type of icing and any handmade decoration is permitted on the cupcakes.
- Four Uses of Chocolate (Open)
To include 4 dishes. To be displayed in an area 60cm x 60cm x 60cm. Recipe cards to be shown.
- 2 Cheese & Onion Pasties (Puff Pastry) (Junior) NAFD
Pasties must be no longer than 20cm.
- 2 Sausage Rolls (Puff Pastry) (Inter) NAFD
Sausage Rolls must be no longer than 15cm long.
- Ham & Egg Pie (Senior) NAFD
To be made to competitors own recipe, please note at Northern Area set recipe will be provided.

Prepare a Stir Fry for one person under £5.00. Max time 30mins, heat allowed (maximum of 2 gas rings). To include costings and receipts. Max Display 60cm x 60cm
- Ready Steady Cook (Open) NAFD
Competitor to bring individual store cupboard ingredients to prepare and present 2 dishes with a maximum budget of £10. 3 days before field day club secretaries will be sent a text with 3 ingredients; 1 meat, 1 vegetable and 1 fruit which must be added to the competitors recipes. (Please note at Northern Area, the 3 ingredients will be provided on the day). Competitors to bring their own gas rings (2 rings max.) and all equipment needed.
- National Cookery & Cookery Questionnaire NFYFC
Team of 3, 1 x 26 or under, 1 x 21 or under & 1 x 16 or under. To prepare 4 dishes (each dish required to serve 2 people) to the theme of ‘Musicals’ to be served as a dinner at an after show party. Must include at least one savoury & one sweet dish. Competitors to bring their own gas rings (2 rings max.) and all equipment needed.
- Farm Business Development (Open) NFYFC
Team of 2 to develop a farm based rural business. Information will be distributed to clubs when received from National. 2 copies of the completed proposal consisting of no more than 8 sides of A4 to be handed in at the Carcass Judging on Wednesday 27th April. Top 4 will be interviewed on the day.
- Ink & Feather Drawing (Inter)
A drawing produced from Ink & Feather from a set subject supplied on the day. Max. size A4 with a time limit of 30 minutes.
- Handmade Brooch (Junior)
A brooch to be made from a medium of Competitors choice to be worn by a leading lady from a Musical at her After Show party.
- Handmade Necklace & Bracelet Set (Inter)
A matching necklace & bracelet set to be made from a medium of Competitors choice to be worn by a leading lady from a Musical at her After Show Party.
- Handmade Fascinator (Senior)
A fascinator to be made from a medium of Competitors choice to be worn by a leading lady from a Musical at her After Show Party.

- Floral Art
- Junior NFYFC – A bouquet for a leading lady/man with the theme ‘Musical’

- CountyDisplay Theme – ‘Country Life’
Max Size 2 metres x 2 metres, to include 2 craft items, 2 cookery items, 1 floral arrangement and 1 other item, all must have been made in the year of the competition and must be identified to the judges.
- Club Display NAFD NFYFC
Each Exhibit to depict the theme of ‘Musicals’. Max size of 1 metre x 1 metre x 1 metre and must have 3 walls. Each exhibit to include the following 5 items:-

2.3Popcorn Model – must have photo evidence to show it is made by the competitor
2.4Four Mounted Photographs – digital or film, mounted on card or similar

- Pallet Challenge (Open) Team of 2; 1 male & 1 female
Each team will be supplied with 2 pallets which they are to dismantle and make into a garden seat. The majority of the wood should be used in the construction. Templates are allowed. Strictly No power tools allowed. Safety clothing must be worn. Time Limit 1 hour.
- Blue Peter Challenge (Junior) NAFD
Team of 4. A musical theme make on the day from supplied rubbish/recycling. Competitors will only be permitted to use items supplied to them. Time limit of 1 hour.
- Gravel Shift (Open)
Team of 2; 1 Male & 1 Female. Shovel provided. Judged on time taken to completely move pile of gravel.

Please note that there must be a different competitor for each age band. Therefore 1 competitor can’t complete both lamb/beef competitions.
- SKILLS COMPETITION
- Landrover Handling NAFD
Team of 2 – 1 male & 1 female both 17 years old and over. Each competitor to hold a full driving license and passed their trailer test. Each to navigate through & back around a set course. Engine must be switched off in-between. To be judged on accuracy and safety not speed. In the event of a tie, time will be taken into consideration.
- Tractor Handling
Team of 2 – 1 male & 1 female. Each competitor to hold a full driving license and passed their trailer test. One competitor is required to drive the tractor and trailer around a set course and one competitor is to reverse back along the same course. Engine to be switched off in-between. Driving License to be shown by both competitors. A team representative must report at the given time to be allocated a time to compete. Failure to report at the time will result in disqualification.
- ATV Handling
Team of 2 – 1 21 or under, 1 26 or under. One competitor will be required to drive the ATV through a set course, he or she will also be required to reverse the ATV for part of this course. The other competitor is required to drive forwards through the same set course and in addition both team members are to hitch a trailer load and secure, manoeuvre through various obstacles and reverse into set garages. Team members will be able to assist each other during hitching and loading of the trailer. Full or tractor license must be shown. Must wear head protection.
- Mini Digger Handling NAFD
The competitor will be required to operate a mini digger as directed by the judge. Note:- the mini digger will remain stationary – only the boom arm will be operated by the competitor for the tasks, as instructed by the judge.
- Cycle Safety & Handling (Junior) NAFD NFYFC
Task 1 – Competitor is required to carry out daily safety checks on a bicycle and demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of cycle safety equipment.
Task 2 – Competitor will be asked to ride their bicycle by the judge.
Competitor to bring their own bike. Helmets must be worn.
- Sheep Shearing
Eliminator to be held at Kitridding Farm, Lupton on Wednesday 4th May 2011
Top 4 to compete at Field Day
6.1Inter Hand
To catch and shear one sheep and roll the fleece in the correct manner in 12 mins. Own shears to be used.
6.2Open Hand
To catch and shear one sheep and wrap fleeces. Competitors are required to bring their own shears.
6.3Inter Machine
To catch and shear two sheep and roll the fleeces in the correct manner in 15 minutes. Own hand piece to be used.
6.4Open Machine
To catch and shear two sheep and to wrap the fleeces. 12 volt machines will be provided, competitor to bring their own hand pieces, combs & cutters.
- Wire a Trailer Light Board
Competitor to wire lights on a Trailer Lighting board. Equipment & fittings supplied.
- Arm Wrestling
Eliminator to be held on Sunday 1st May at Hebblethwaite Farm, Marthwaite, Sedbergh

Team of 2, 1 male and 1 female. Competitors to eat a variety of mystery foods. Judged on time taken, marks deducted for spillage. Food will be provided.
- Sheaf Throwing (Open) NAFD
Sheaf of straw to be tossed over an ever increasing height. Fork will be provided. Highest & furthest wins.
- Apple Bobbing (Junior)

Eliminating Round on Sunday 1st May 2011 at Hebblethwaite Farm, Marthwaite at 10.30am prompt to allow weigh in. Minimum team of 8, maximum of 10 per team. Maximum weight limit of 560kg for team. For every girl in the team the weight can increase by 10kgs to a maximum of 600kgs in total. Top 4 teams to compete at Field day. Top 3 at Field Day to CountyFinal on 4th June
- Tug of War (Girls) NAFD NFYFC
Eliminating Round on Sunday 1st May 2011 at Hebblethwaite Farm, Marthwaite at 10.30am prompt to allow weigh in. Team of 8, maximum of 2 members may be between 15 and 18. The 8 members of the team will be weighed in as one and will not exceed 580kgs. No steel toe capped boots. Top 4 teams to compete at field day (no substitution of the team members allowed). - Cross Country NAFD
Team of 4 members aged 18 years or under on the 1st September 2010, will be required to race around a cross country course an approximate distance of 2-3km. The team of 4 competitors will start the race together and the best three times from the team will be counted.
- Boat Race
To be held on Sunday 1st May at Hebblethwaite Farm, Marthwaite. Team of 6 members to include at least 2 of each sex. Competitors will be 18 or over. Judged on time taken. Marks will be deducted for spillage.
- Finale Obstacle Course
Team of 6 – 2 juniors; 2 inters & 2 seniors at least 2 of each sex. Fancy dress theme – ‘One Man & His Dog’.
