The Lancashire Team(s) took part in the annual 5-Counties shoot on 7th October 2007, which took place at Newcastle-upon Tyne. I have listed the individual scores which have been put into the categories of team scores as shot on the day.

We did not come away empty-handed, but brought back home the trophy for the match between Lancashire and Cheshire in the Recurve and also the trophy for the match between Lancashire and Yorkshire in the Recurve. Added to these two trophies was the winning of the newly donated trophy from Cumbria for the Highest Scoring Gentlemen Compound Team. It should be pointed out that the match between Lancashire and Yorkshire was won by only two points and was obviously a close fought thing on the day.

Although I was unable to attend the match my thanks go to all the archers who took part on behalf of Lancashire and on the day did their best. There were a total of 5 new faces on the team and one of which was a junior, who had shot the previous day the the Junior Match. Special thanks go to them and very well done. All archers deserve credit for the efforts they put in. My thanks also go to Barry Collinson, one of the Selectors, who took my place on the day as Team Manager and from what I am told did a stirling job – Thanks Barry.

This is the last match of the year and brings a bit of a warm glow to Lancashire’s archery achievements, well I think so, don’t you. Nobody can deny that it must have been extremely pleasing to beat both Yorkshire and Cheshire in the Recurve category.

I believe Pete Phillips broke the Lancashire Record for York – Compound with a score of 1248. Anyone challenging this should submit their score to Mark Leach, Lancashire Records Officer with supporting paperwork. But I would warn all compound gentlemen that I have been told that since Pete has given up smoking he is going to concentrate on his archery and show some of you young ones how to do it – don’t say you have not been warned.

Hopefully therefore we can hope to see more archers at open tournaments to put up a challenge. Any score of relevance should be sent to the Lancashire Team Manager, Seniors for consideration by Selectors for the County Team and Squad Training.

I can only hope that the archers and officials enjoyed the day, I was supporting you in mind, although the weather was a bit iffy. From what I am told a day of overcast with slight drizzle occasionally, but completely still.

The awarding of County Badges and Bars covering all the matches in 2007 will be awarded at the Lancashire Indoor which takes place on Sunday 9th December 2007 at Clayton Green Sports Centre, Nr. Chorley – so get those entry forms filled in.

Thanks again to all and good luck in the future.
