Creative People and Places – New Funding Programme
Arts Council England have recently announced a new programme encouraging more people to engage in the arts and about creating more arts opportunities. It’s called Creative People and Places and funding will be given to successful applications from groups of organisations. They are looking for long-term collaborations between local communities and arts organisations, artists, museums, libraries, local authorities and education providers that can demonstrate excellent and innovative ways to develop inspiring long-term arts programmes. A group of Bradford based organistions included the namtionl media Museum, Bradford Council Culture & Tourism Dept, Kala Sangam, Artworks and Theatre in the Mill, are looking to submit a joint bid and would like to hear from any others who are interested in getting involved. If you want to be part of making a real difference to our cultural and creative landscape and the lives of people in Bradford please email to register your interest with them by 23 March and email Rashmi Sudhir, Arts Engagement Officer, to register your interest and answer the question - If you could have ‘art on demand’ what would it be?
Ilkley Literature Festival Fringe 2012 - Submissions Now Open
If you’re a writer, poet, playwright, screenwriter, stand-up who writes their own material, writers group, small press, or live literature performer of any kind from, or with strong links to, the Yorkshire Region, make this year the one when you submit an application to present a Fringe Event at the 2012 Festival.
The Fringe runs alongside the main Festival from 28 September – 14 October and applications are welcome from groups and individuals and from creative writing tutors, group leaders, teachers and youth workers etc who would like a slot for a group they are working with. Rural campaigners have claimed more than half of England’s countryside could be at increased risk from development under the Government’s reforms of planning laws.
Community Energy Given Parliamentary Boost
Shadow Charities Minister, Gareth Thomas, has introduced a Parliamentary Bill to give communities new rights to purchase shares in new energy initiatives. The Energy Generation (Planning and Right to Invest) Bill would require energy companies to offer shares to local residents.

One in a Million Free School invites Bradford parents to ‘Meet the Principal’
The One in a Million Free School, which plans to open at Bradford City Football Club in 2012 (subject to property purchase contract), is hosting a series of “Meet the Principal” consultation events for parents in March. the consultation events will give parents from the region an opportunity to find out more about the school’s plans and talk through their child’s specific requirements. The first event took place 5 March between 7pm and 9pm with two weekly events held throughout March until the 26th. Make Bradford British Event

The recent Channel 4 documentary "Make Bradford British" has got a lot of us talking.
They gave a positive view of how the people of our city can learn to live together, when we make an effort to get to know one another better, and establish relationships of friendship and trust. Elizabeth Hellmich from the SAFE Project and local vicar Rev Clare MacLaren would like to invite you to join with them to continue the conversation - with discussion-starter questions, and in small groups of 3 or 4 so that everyone can contribute.

A Government consultation has been launched which outlines plans to enable same-sex couples to have a civil marriage ceremony. The Government recognises that there are a wide range of views on this issue and they want to hear from all perspectives. Disabled People's Employment Scheme to Close 36 Factories
Minister for Disabled People, Maria Miller, has announced that employment opportunities given to 17,000 disabled people through the Social Labour Intermediary, Remploy, are ‘not viable' and will close. Remploy was set up after World War Two as part of the establishment of the welfare state.

Buildings Study Tour

Business Committee Call for Action on Legal Loansharks
The Business, Innovation and Skills Select Committee has called on the government to act to better regulate payday lenders. The Committee described the payday industry as ‘opaque and poorly regulated' and suggested a range of measures, but stopped short of calling for a cap.
New Funding for Advice Services in the Pipeline
Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander, announced that the Budget will include additional funding for VCS-run advice services. Speaking at NCVO's annual conference he said the government was responding to concerns about the over the Legal Aid Bill.
