1 Clothes should be clean, ironed and on hangers with no stains, holes or buttons missing- please clearly mark with the size. Unfortunately, we have had to limit the number of items of clothing to 40 per seller due to space restrictions at the sale. We would ask that you bring seasonal clothing only as we have found that out of season clothes do not sell well. Please do not bring large bags of clothes to sell as a bundle. If you wish to sell multiples of items such as vests or baby grows please put them into small clear bags (e.g. freezer bags). Please note, in our experience supermarket branded clothing does not tend to sell.

2 Please include original instructions and packaging where appropriate and possible. Make sure that any items which have a number of pieces are secured together e.g. jigsaw puzzles, fittings for equipment etc.

We have found that items which require assembly such as cots and play pens are much more likely to sell if there is an accompanying photograph of the item fully assembled.

If you are selling battery powered toys they must be in full working order and include working batteries. They will be checked at check in.

3 Pushchairs, prams and buggies may be sold only if they meet the following criteria: Wheeled child conveyances must conform to British Standard 7409 (or equivalent European standard) and must be permanently marked BS7409:1996, together with the name or trademark of the manufacturer or importer. A permanent notice on the vehicle must state "Children should be harnessed in at all times and should never be left unattended. The child should be clear of moving parts when making adjustments. This vehicle requires regular maintenance by the user. Overloading, incorrect folding and the use of unapproved accessories may damage or break this vehicle. Read the instructions". Instructions in English must be supplied with each vehicle although, if the original instructions are lost, replacements may be able to be downloaded from the internet.

Following news reports of children being hurt by Maclaren buggies, any of the following models must be fitted with hinge safety covers. These are available free of charge from the Maclaren website, Models affected are: Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, Techno XLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno and Easy Traveller.

4 Travel systems may be sold but without the car seat. (You may attach a contact number, so that you could sell the car seat privately to whoever buys the travel system. However, the sale of second hand car seats is not encouraged by the NCT).

5 Any upholstered furniture (prams, high chairs etc) must have a permanent label headed “Carelessness Causes Fire” and includes a summary of the measures taken to ensure compliance with the Regulations.

  1. Preparing and labelling your items, sorting and completing the sellers form

Please ensure that all your items are complete, in full working order and in accordance with the criteria above.

All items must be labelled clearly and securely – any items which lose their label or are not labelled correctly cannot be sold.

  • Attach one label to each item. The label sheet enclosed with this letter can be photocopied as many times as required and then attached to a sheet of card or photocopied directly onto card. We would prefer you to use the labels provided to ensure that the correct details are displayed for everyone’s convenience.
  • Each label must clearly show your seller number, the item number, a description of the item (including size where appropriate) and price.
  • Labels should be attached to clothes using string through button holes or the garment label where possible. If not, please use a safety pin (not ordinary pins though please).
  • Labels should be attached to toys or equipment by string stuck on with tape, so long as removal of the tape will not damage the item. Please do not use sticky labels.

All your items will need to be listed on your sellers form. If you are selling a lot of items, please photocopy the form first. Enter your name, seller code, address and telephone number, then list each item in numerical order. For example:-

*In this example the seller’s number is 34BRO

3. Pricing

When pricing your item consider how much you would pay for it second hand rather than what it cost when new. A general guide is 1/3 to 1/4 of the brand new price, depending on condition. Remember that there will be plenty of choice and buyers will tend to buy the cheaper items.

Please price your items in increments of 50p. Any items not priced in increments of 50p will be rounded down at the checkout.

Pricing guidelines: Baby grows 50p - £1

Vests (bagged)50p -£2 for 3+Dresses £1 - £3 Trousers £1 - £3

Coats£2 - £5Cot £10 - £40

High chair £10 - £30Pushchair £10 - £40

Pricing is of course at your own discretion.

4. Delivery to the sale

You must have each of your items “checked in” before the sale. Please remember to bring:

  • All your items;
  • A SAE (self addressed envelope -to be used to send you your cheque afterwards);
  • 2 copies of your sellers form; and
  • A box large enough to put all your unsold items in

Please arrive at the venue between 09.00 and 10.00 am.

The doors will be locked at 10.00 am and there will be no further access to the hall until the start of the sale at 12.00 noon. At check in, all items will be checked for quality and to make sure that the labels on the items correspond with the descriptions on your list. One copy of the list will be retained by us, the other will be kept by you.

You will also need to bring with you a plastic or cardboard box substantial enough to hold your unsold items. This is so that we are not placing your items directly onto the, by now, not so clean floor. It will also enable us to operate more efficiently.

PLEASE ENSURE YOUR BOX IS LABELLED CLEARLY (ideally with A4 label) WITH YOUR SELLERS NUMBER

5. Collecting your unsold items

At the end of the sale your remaining items will be collected together and you must come to the venue to collect them between 2.00 and 2.30 pm. You must not arrive later than 2.30 as we need to be out of the building.

Unwanted items must not be left as donations. Unfortunately we do not have the volunteer numbers to do charity shop drop offs or to store the items for future sales.

6. Money matters

Your proceeds are calculated by adding up the amounts from items that have gone through the checkout. 25% of the proceeds from your sold items are donated to the NCT to cover administrative costs including the hire of the venue, as well as raising vital funds for the charity.

A cheque for the balance of your proceeds from the sale will be posted to you within two weeks of the sale using the SAE you provide.

7. Small Print

Every effort is made to ensure security during the sale. However, the NCT cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage incurred as a result of buying or selling any item at the sale. The NCT cannot accept liability for your goods left at the sale. All items are left at your own risk. Consult your own household insurance if you are worried.

We will not pass your personal details onto any other organisation. We will keep a record of your name and the contact details that you provide us with. We may contact you in the future with information regarding other NCT sales or events.

Finally...

Oldham and Rochdale NCT would like to thank you in advance for your support

Happy Selling! 
