ANTIQUE POWER ASSOCIATION
ESTABLISHED 2003
September 2017
Dear Members,
It is fall. There is a chill in the air (feels good!!). Shows and events are happening nearly every weekend almost everywhere. But it will be over before we realize it. Hopefully each of us can enjoy several of them.
v We continue to pray for those of our members, families, and friends who have special needs. Remember also to pray for our country and for those who are cleaning up from the recent hurricanes.

v The Hickory American Legion Fair was a success (even with the rain) thanks to all who participated, whether by bringing in equipment for display or by being there in person to help where needed.
v The Swap Meet and Building Fund Raffle on September 16 will have already happened by the time you get this letter. No news yet, of course, but we’ll hear how it went at the October meeting.
v Speaking of October, two big things are coming up:
v The first is annual elections during the October 5 meeting.
v Second: our annual club outing at Glenn Sigmon’s place on October 7. We always have a great time of fellowship together during this time and we look forward to the same this year.
§ No change in schedule has been promulgated yet, but it should be the same as last year. Dinner starts at 6PM, but come early – at least by 5PM so we can take a club photo.
§ But we encourage everyone to come even earlier and enjoy the peace and solitude of Glenn’s place and the fellowship with the others who come early. Besides, Glenn always has something on display or in operation to see and enjoy also.
§ If you’ve never been there before, it is easy to find.
· From NC16 about 2 miles south of Oxford Dam, turn east onto River Bend Road. Travel about 2 miles, then turn left (north) onto Hafer Rd. and go to the end of the road
§ Glenn, we appreciate you and we thank God for you.
v The Show Committee met in July and hashed out an equitable distribution of the proceeds from the 2017 show. It was a banner year. That proposal was presented to the membership at the September meeting and was unanimously voted as the way we should proceed. Here is the breakdown of how the total of $28,000 is to be distributed.
§ Hospice $5500
§ Family Care Center $5500
§ NC Veteran’s Home $4000
§ Children’s Advocacy Ctr $3500
§ Catawba Co. 4H $1000
§ TrailLife $1000
§ BH ROTC $1000
§ FAPA Improvement fund $6500

------a thought for the month------
Earlier this month, I went to the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall set up in Conover. I parked in an adjoining parking lot, but I could not get out of my truck – I just sat there and wept. Finally, after much prayer and contemplation, I dried my eyes and walked to that solemn place.
Many people have no concept of what that wall represents nor of the thousands of permanent memorials in cities and towns all over our country (and other countries also) commemorating the men and women who gave their lives in every war we have been involved in. But worse than that, many more are not concerned at all.
In that latter group are ones who say, “Why were we there in the first place?” and, by asking, they belittle the sacrifice of every man and woman who gave their life. These are ones who cry “Make peace, not war,” but are willing to do little more than open their mouths. These are ones who stir up the rest of us and make us ask “Why?” but, at the same time, are unable to answer that simple question. They may even say, “Stop all war!” but no one has ever been able to do that. If we listen to them long enough, we will, slowly but surely, start to think like they think – ignorant of history and ignorant of truth.
We must have a solid foundation in truth, so as to ease our hearts as to why – why is there war, why is there death. The answer is the same as for why is there theft, murder, adultery, etc.
Some church-goers say it is because of the devil. Well, he is the father of lies and a murderer from the beginning, but we dare not glorify him by accounting all the world’s problems to him. Some others may even say God brings it upon us. But the True God is righteous and holy, The God of Light and of Life and of Love. He can no more bring about the death of a man than He could become unfaithful to His promises.
That leaves only one other – man himself – man who is subject to sin and death. If you want to find out what man is really like, from God’s perspective, read Romans 1:18 – 3:20. This section is summarized by 3:10 (‘there is none righteous, no not one”) through 3:18 (“there is no fear of God before their eyes.”). This answers the question “Why?”
Man, as he is born into this world, is ruled by sin, unrighteous, and has no fear of God. If he does not have the opportunity to change or the willingness to change, he will grow in his unrighteousness, using other men and women as his pawns for his own purposes, having no regard for their lives. He may claim divine direction, but his heart is far from the True God. Even if he wanted to be free of this oppressive master, he could not achieve it on his own.
Yet one man chose righteousness over self – he chose God’s way over his way – he chose love over hate. Because of his self-less, righteous, sacrifice, God freely gives all men the opportunity to be free and live a new life in righteousness.
You and I have received His gracious gift and are endeavoring to live it, even though the world around us continues the grow worse and worse without it. Some around us have heard and believed the same message but have not yet come to live this gift. Others have not yet heard enough to believe. They need to hear, but they will only hear it from you or me – the ones working and living side-by-side with them day-after-day. They need to see, but they will only see from us as we show them the righteousness of our God and of our Lord Jesus Christ.
God bless you all.
Looking forward to seeing you in October. Your Secretary, David Setzer
