Objective:To market (promote) individual cities through PowerPoint presentations.
Materials:Spiral single subject notebook, generic postcards, labels, mailers, addresses, letter

The family member or friend will write information about their city in the student’s travel journal and will then mail it to someone that they know in a different city and they will then mail a postcard back to the student at school to verify that the journal is in route to another city. When the journal arrives back at the school after it has traveled to five cities then the student will research each city and prepare a PowerPoint presentation including graphics and sound to present to the entire class promoting each traveled city.

Travel Journals
(outside cover of Journal)
We are embarking on an exciting adventure that will integrate our study of marketing and the world around us.
Each student will prepare and mail a travel journal to a friend or relative that lives in a different city, state, or country. We are asking that the receiver of this journal submit an entry and mail the journal to another friend or relative. (Details of what to write in the journal are posted on the inside front cover.) We are also requesting that they mail a postcard to the students at school. Labels will be provided inside the notebook. The post card will be great if it is from your town or region (like a tourist postcard) if not then please feel free to use the blank ones provided. This journal will be mailed back to the school concluding a long and interesting journey. All journals need to be back to the school by March 1, 2006. All journals should travel to at least 5 people.
During the course of the travel, we will track the progress of our journals and display all of our postcards in our classroom. We will learn about different places through our journals and postcards. When the journals arrive back the students will make a marketing presentation to the class about where their journal has traveled.
Thanks for your help with this exciting project!
Dear Friend: (inside instruction sheet for Journal)
I am a student at El DoradoHigh School in El Dorado, Arkansas. I am learning about marketing and the world around us. With your help I can learn about many different places. Here’s how you can help me:
- Complete one journal entry in my Travel Journal by writing about the city or region in which you live.
Things to Describe:
- why someone would choose to live in your area
- what kind of benefits your town has
- what type of climate your region has
- what kind of economy does your town have
- what kind of industries does your area have
- list any kind of tourist attractions
- describe your population size and mix
- Send a postcard from your city addressed to me at the school using the labels provided.
- Send my travel journal to a friend or relative who lives in a different region or town in the United States or another country.
I will be keeping track of my journal’s travels back here in my classroom. We have an area that we will display all of our postcards.
Thank you for helping me with this fun project. Don’t forget to send me a postcard and forward my journal to a friend. If you are the last person to receive my journal (minimum of 5 people) or it is close to the return date of (March 1, 2005), please return my journal to the school by using the label provided along with your postcard.

/ 600Dear Parents of Marketing Students:
Please help your student to obtain an address that is from an adult that you know. The adult needs to not live in the same city as ours and be willing to write some information about their city and forward the travel journal on to someone that they know that lives in a different city.
This project is a major grade for your student and will be completed during the last nine weeks of the school year. Thanks in advance for your help.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jackie Phillips, Marketing Teacher
