Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Room: Water’s Edge Boardroom

13:18: Opened meeting of the Maintenance Task Group

Presented the proposed agenda in IEEE 802.16maint-09/0023.

13:22: Motion to approve the agenda (IEEE 802.16maint-09/0023): Moved by Shawn Taylor, seconded by Dan Gal.

Approved by unanimous consent.

Reviewed the IEEE Patent Policy:

The foregoing information was provided and the five slides were shown.

The chair provided an opportunity for participants to identify patent claim(s)/patent application claim(s) and/or the holder of patent claim(s)/patent application claim(s) that the participant believes may be essential for the use of that standard.

No identification was given.

Reviewed the minutes of Session #63IEEE 802.16maint-09/0020.

Dan Gal corrected a typo and generate IEEE 802.16maint-09/0020r1.

13:25Motion to approve minutes from Session #63 (IEEE 802.16maint-09/0020r1)Moved by Shawn Taylor, seconded by Dan Gal.

No discussions on the motion.

Motion accepted by unanimous consent.

Presented the remaining slides in IEEE 802.16maint-08/0023.

Reviewed the CR, Annex C of L802.16-09/0089, whose proposed resolution was incomplete. Some email discussion with the author of the CR was exchanged (see Appendix 1), on how to resolve the outstanding issue. It was determined by the TG that the solution was not correct, i.e.to put the table in an Annex of IEEE Std 802.16-2009, as the group felt the text was normative and not informative. The TG chose to respond to the liaison statement to ask the WiMAX Forum to provide a more complete solution.

Drafted up the reply letter L802.16-09/0091 to the liaison statement L802.16-09/0089.

14:10: Motion: To authorize the TG Chair to forward L802.16-09/0091 to the WG as the proposed Liaison statement to the WiMAX Forum in response to L802.16-09/0089 and authorize the WG Chair to make any necessary editorial modifications.

Discussed the recommended maintenance actions to take on:

•IEEE Std 802.16.2-2004 “Local and Metropolitan Area Networks - Recommended Practice for Coexistence of Fixed Broadband Wireless Access Systems”

•IEEE Std 802.16/Conformance03-2004 "IEEE Standard for Conformance to IEEE Standard 802.16 - Part 3: Radio Conformance Tests (RCT) for 10-66 GHz WirelessMAN-SC Air Interface"

The TG felt that:

•IEEE Std 802.16.2-2004 is still a valid and useful document and that it should go through a reaffirmation ballot.

•IEEE Std 802.16/Conformance03-2004 is no longer valid as there is no known implementation of the SC PHY for 10-66 GHz in the marketplace, and no members of the IEEE 802.16 WG are supporting that feature of the standard. It is recommended that this standard be withdrawn.

15:18: Motion: To authorize the TG Chair to make the following motion at the IEEE 802.16 Session #63.5 Closing Plenary: To initiate a reaffirmation ballot for IEEE Std 802.16.2-2004.

Hi,

I would suggest adding the table as Annex P (informative) Activation and transition of MS system states.

Would you prefer to add it somewhere else?

Best regards,

Martin

Subject: Resolution to third CR in L802.16-09/0089

Hey guys,

In the last Liaison letter we received from the WiMAX forum on change requests to 802.16-2009 (L802.16-09/0089 also attached), we noticed during session #63 in Korea, that the third CR in the letter (identified as IOPR43936), was not complete. I would like to enlist your help in completing it.

I am specifically talking about the last change proposed in the letter:

3-Activation and transition of system states.

Let the editor add the following table to the standard at an appropriate place in the standard:

MS has a Scanning pattern

MS is in Sleep mode with an active PSC

MOB_SLP-RSP message with new PSC activation

. Activation of a PSC cancels the entire scanning context. Note that the MS may perform scanning autonomously during the unavailability interval

See 6.3.20.

MOB_HO-REQ message

Scanning pattern is deactivated upon transmission or reception of the MOB_HO-REQ message.

All PSCs are deactivated upon transmission or reception of the MOB_HO-REQ message.

DREG-REQ message to enter Idle mode

Scanning pattern should be deactivated upon completion of deregistration.

Sleep mode is deactivated upon completion of deregistration.

I think you can see why this is considered incomplete. Do one ore more of you have some offline BW available to help with this?

Thanks,

Jon
