Film Review Paper
Assignment instructions:
STAPLE THIS PAPER TO YOUR REVIEW
I am using it to determine if you’ve answered my questions and to grade your paper.
Select one film from the following list only: (note: some clips shown in class are not listed here because they are too short for review). Only the selections below are up for review). Select ONE.
- Dr. Leo Buscaglia’s “Loving Relationships”
- Gary Zukav (From the Oprah Show) – See handouts, “Gary Zukav Site”
- John Gray’s “Beyond Mars and Venus”
When reviewing, do not tell me what I already know! I too have viewed these films. Do not tell me what happened in the films – I already know
Rather, I am seeking your own personal opinion of the information from these communicators.
Attach your own “meaning” to what they’re saying – explain it – speak your own individual truth and include examples or experiences you’ve had that justify your opinions.
What information from your textbooks correlates with the film? Hint- use some textbook terminology for “scholarly” elaboration.
What did you find interesting about the film?
Explain how you can use this information in your own life.
This is not a “criticism” paper. Select at least ONE (or more) positive idea(s) you learned from the film that you will take with you. I am looking for a positive outlook of the theorist’s information. What one thing (or more) can you use in your life? Explain how the theorist inspired you in at least one way that you can relate to your own life. Think about how you feel and express it. Use the speaker’s theory (Gray, Zukav, or Buscaglia) to support your opinions. The objective here is to find a useable idea from the theorist that you can use in your life. Make the effort to do so.
Points for film reviews are awarded on the quality as well as the required length of the paper and are dependent upon scholarly answers to the questions I have asked. Do not “trash” the theorist, but instead, find one positive idea that you can use in your life. Apply “self” to the information.
Consult your class syllabus for paper format questions, and your schedule for due date.
