MINUTES

I. Approval of Minutes

The minutes from the January 18th, 2012, and February 15th, 2012 were approved with minor changes.

II. President’s Report

Strategic Planning Task Force Update - Nino stated the collection and analysis is complete. The strategic map was reviewed by the President and the Board of Trustees. He distributed a handout of the map to the Senate.

Budget Update – there is nothing new to report; no additional funding.

III. Old Business

A. Provost Search – Kay and Marc – the search will re-open and will resume work through the summer and be ready to go in the fall with the best candidates. Additional members may be needed. On behalf of the Staff Senate, Nino expressed his deep appreciation to Kay and Marc for their work on this committee.

IV. New Business / Announcements

A. Executive Board Vacancy Confirmations:

B. Associate Senators - Megan Gordon and Monica Jacobi – approved by members of Senate.

C. Year-End Reception, Inductions and Awards will be held May 16th at 12:00-1:30pm. The location will be announced shortly.

Elections and Constitution Council (ECC) – Matt

· Ballot – reminder email to vote for new members of Senate.

Staff Development and Recognition Council (SDRC) - Joe

· Staff Development Opportunities handout distributed.

· Joe O’Brien is new chair.

· Carol Wells will be sending out a Wellness Survey soon.

Special Events and Community Building Council (SECBC) – Kyle

· Kyle Williams is new chair.

· MCCC walk.

· Habitat for Humanity.

Communications and Public Relations Council (CPRC) – Sharon

· Brochure.

· Website – working on transferring from old format to new.

· Newsletter – waiting on summaries from councils to finish newsletter to distribute by May.

· Use the new reporting form for committee meetings so this information can be included in the minutes.

· Staff Senate picture coming soon.

· Overlapping ideas with appropriate committees for obtaining new employee listings as well as promoting staff achievements like promotions and years of service and/ or department changes.

Helen Shaw Staff Excellence Award (HSSEA) – Joe

· Nominations open – deadline 4/27.

· Submissions unknown and will be reviewed in summer.

· For the first time, awards ceremony will be in the fall. Event is set for Friday, September 19th at 3pm in Business Building Lounge.

Traffic Appeals

· Communication regarding misconception that when gates are raised students can park in the lot. Students are not permitted to park in Faculty/Staff lots. Signs are need to communicate this.
