Frozen Tier – the Race Back Home
Each patrol will demonstrate “Being Prepared” by bringing the following REQUIRED items/equipment on their Klondike sled:
1) Event map/schedule sheet received at registration
2) Patrol flag mounted to a 4’ flag pole
3) 2 - Patrol rosters (patrol name, patrol member names and rank of all present) – one for registration and one for sled check
4) Pencil and paper
5) 1 – 50’ long 3/8 diameter rope for patrol
6) 2 – sleeping bags
7) 6 – round staves 1”-2” diameter and minimum 4’ long (broom handle size)
8) 6 – 6’ long 3/8” diameter ropes for the patrol
9) 1- Poncho
10) 1 – Compass
11) 2 – 1 gallon milk jugs full of water
12) Hot drink cup for each patrol member – cannot be same as #22
13) 1 – working flashlight
14) 1 – roll duct tape
15) 1- Boy Scout Handbook
16) 1- Patrol first aid kit
17) Patrol yell – demonstrate
18) 1 – Blanket
19) 3 – 8’x8’ sheets of 4mm (min) thick plastic
20) 1 – Klondike sled – no wheels for race related events
21) 1- emergency whistle
22) Water bottle and water for each patrol member - cannot be same as #12
23) 1- Pocket knife
24) 1- saw with guard
25) 1- hand ax with guard
26) All patrol members with Totin’ Chip card
27) 1 – trash bag
28) Scouts wearing proper clothing based event weather ( hats, gloves, heavy coat, footwear, poncho, etc,) – those not prepared will not participate
29) Patrol lunch is to be hot and heated without using an open ground fire. This will be a judged event. Bring enough for patrol and troop adult leaders not on staff. All equipment and methods must follow Leave No Trace and Guide to Safe Scouting. Judge can reject method and/or equipment!
30) 1 – set of flint/steel
31) 2 – packs hot cocoa mix (judges) – more allowed for patrol
32) Materials and equipment to build an above ground fire. Only natural wood can be used for tinder, kindling, and fuel. Equipment can be grates, platform, etc. No charcoal, no accelerants, artificial materials or old pallets. These materials are to be labeled with troop #, patrol name, and securely contained. These will be checked and turned in to sled check judge. All equipment and methods must follow Leave No Trace and Guide to Safe Scouting. Judge can reject method and/or equipment! This cannot be combined or shared materials/equipment used with #29.
33) 1 – pair Dutch oven (type) leather gloves
34) 1 - small soup pot
35) 1- mobile Internet capable device – maximum 1 allowed
36) 2- rolls ($0.50 each) of pennies
