COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The Machine Tool Technology Program provides training for students who plan to enter the machine trades field and upgrading for those in the field who desire additional skills. The program is competency based allowing students enter at their own level and progress at their own pace. Hands-on learning is stressed, allowing students to take as many laboratory hours as possible.
COURSE OBJECTIVE:
After successful completion of this course, the student will have extended their skills, using the vertical milling machine, surface grinder and lathe to produce a precision piece of equipment and will have used various pieces for support and measuring devices.

A100% to 90%
B89% to 80%
C79% to 70%
D69% to 60%
F59% and below
85% of the student grade will be based on project completion and shop participation.
15% of the student grade will be bases on test scores.

GRADING PLOICY:
PROJECTS and/or ON-LINE TEST, PASS/FAIL
ASSIGNMENTS:
Blue prints of projects, will be supplied by the instructor and text review will be designated.
GRADE DETERMINATION:
The instructor will grade all projects as to how closely they match the blue print. All projects will be completed in the MMT Shop and graded by the instructor before the student will be allowed to take it out of the building.
ATTENDENCE:
Students are expected to attend every class. If a student misses more than three (3) classes, they may receive an F for excessive absenteeism. Classes starting time is 8:00 am. Two (2) late entries and the student will receive a demerit. Each demerit equals a one (1) letter drop in grade. Absenteeism’s and demerits will accumulate over the sixteen (16) week semester.
SHOP CLEAN-UP:
All students are responsible for cleaning their work area. The last 15 minutes of each class will be used for clean-up.
INSTRUCTION METHOD:
There will be a short lecture and or demonstration at the beginning of each class. The majority of the class will be devoted to student projects.

MACHINE TOOL TECHNOLOGY (MTT)
MACHINE SHOP RULES, PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT, and EMERGENGY MANAGEMENT PLANS
RULES:
- Safety glasses must be worn in the shop area at all times. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
- No open toe foot wear allowed. Work boots are recommended.
- Long hair and loose clothing must be properly restrained.
- Hearing protection will be supplied by the instructor upon request (ear plugs). Hearing protection is required if the noise level reaches 85 DBA and higher.
- Chemical gloves should be worn while working with hazardous materials, cutting oils, lubricants, and solvents.
- NIOSH approved respirators are for all hazardous material operations as well as grinding and cutting operations with potential exposure.
- NO HORSE PLAY OR ROUGH HOUSING IS ALLOWED IN THE MTT FACILITY.
- No yelling or screaming is allowed in the MTT facility. When this happens on a shop floor, it means that someone is hurt.
- Long pants and short-sleeve shirts are recommended.
10. Students are NOT allowed to operate the shop equipment
withoutan instructor present.
11. Inform your instructor immediately of any damaged
tools, equipment, and or safety guards missing.
12. All students will familiarize themselves with the location
of all: exits, fire extinguishers, fire pull stations,
equipment electrical disconnects, first aid kit, eye wash
and shower locations prior to working in the shop.
IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY:
You must dial 9 to acquire an outside line, than dial 911.

WesternNevadaCollege is equipped with an EMERGENCY SIREN. If the siren is sounded, the college is in lock down. All MTT students will gather in the machine shop area (room # 100). All doors will be shut and locked. No one will leave the shop area until notified that the campus is secure. This is to insure your safety, and to allow the local law enforcement agencies to perform their job without any interference.
To have the emergency Carson campus siren energized, dial WNC Public Safety at 230-1952.
IN CASE OF FIRE: All students will leave the MTT facility immediately by the closest exit to where they are working. Once out of the building, students and instructors will congregate at the Nevada Forestry Fire Department on the East side of the MTTBuilding, where a head count will be taken.
IN CASE OF AN EARTHQUAKE:
Students must determine the best plan of action. You have several choices.
- Find a safe haven under a table or other sturdy object (lathe), etc.
- Stand in a door way. The headers give it extra support.
- Exit the building.

STUDENT CONDUCT AGREEMENT
Students attending any of the Machine Tool Technology classes must realize the hazardous environment in which the classes are held. The students are expected to act accordingly before, during, and after classes, while on the WNC Campus. Bad behavior includes but not limited to the following: Shop safety rules not observed, threatening or abusive language towards any individuals, sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, bias and prejudice, and drug/ alcohol use is prohibited.
Disciplinary action may result from violations of the Student Conduct Agreement.
I understand and will conduct myself in an appropriate manner while attending Machine Tool Technology classes.
