Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Triangle – Stroke Project. The Stroke Project is always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to keep up its great work, and we are always pleased to hear from people who have time, energy and commitment.
This information booklet will help you tofind out more about our organisation, the benefits of volunteering, which volunteering roles we offer, the recruitment process and our contact details. If you decide to apply for a role (which wehope you do!), please fill in the application form attached and send it back to us via email or post (see contact details at the end of this document).
TRIANGLE – The Stroke Project
Triangle Community Services (formerly known asTLC Care Services) is a registered charity providing domiciliary care services, end of life services and working in partnership with Hanover in 4 extra care schemes in Barking, Dagenham and Redbridge. In 2012, Triangle became a wholly owned subsidiary of Friends of the Elderly.
The Stroke Project has beenpart of Triangle since 2001 and provides community based support and prevention services to people affected byor at high risk of stroke.
Volunteers are a vitalresourcefor the Stroke Project, as they enhance the work of staff and the quality of the service we offer to our stroke survivors, carers and people in the community.

In today’s busy society, it is hard tofind time to volunteer. However, the benefits of volunteering are enormousforyou, your family and the community.
There are many reasons that people give for volunteering:

Volunteering Roles
Support Groups Volunteer
Description
Make a difference in the lives of stroke survivors and gain valuable experience in the process. We run a range of different groups and volunteers can be allocated to one or more groups according to their area of interest, eg. high care groups, self-help group, group for younger stroke survivors (18-60yo), Talk Stroke group for people with communication difficulties, exercise classes, walking group, stroke forum, etc.
As a volunteer you will be asked to:
-help design activities and resources;
-run activities during group sessions;
-encourage members to take part in activities/exercise;
-engage members in group discussions;
-advise on healthy lifestyle;
-help group members with refreshments;
-help setting up venue;
-help the team with data entry and calls.
Volunteers need enthusiasm and commitment. All our groups are inthe Hackney area from Monday to Thursday afternoon. Training will be provided.
Skills and Qualification
We welcome volunteers with a positive, lively, creative and caring attitude who have an interest in helping stroke survivors with their recovery. You should have good communication skills, be enthusiastic and committed.
Admin, Marketing and Publicity Volunteer
Description
Our Admin, Marketing and Publicity Volunteers will support The Stroke Project Team to carry out generic (but extremely important) office duties. As part of this role volunteers will be asked to:
-answer phone calls and transfer/ take message for relevant staff members;
-contact service users when necessary;
-update our client database;
-support with newsletter and surveys;
-help with data entry;
-supportdistributing publicity to service users and stakeholders in the community.
This is a good opportunity for volunteers to enhance their IT skills using Microsoft Office (word, excel, publisher, powerpoint and access) and customer service skills. Volunteers need enthusiasm and commitment. Our office is based in Hackney (Well Street). Training will be provided.
Skills and Qualification
We welcome volunteers with good communication skills and a genuine interest in developing their office work skills.
Other Volunteering tasks
The Stroke Project takes part in various community events,raisingstroke awareness, so we also ask volunteers with an interest in Public Health to get in touch to help prevent stroke by supplying information and raisingawareness.
Recruitment Process
The process of recruiting volunteers is as follows:
- Complete and send us the application form attached to this booklet;
- We will contact you to invite you to come for an informal conversation. We really just want to find out a bit more about you and why you want to volunteer for The Stroke Project and we will introduce you to what we do.
- If we decide you are a suitable applicant for the role, you will be invited to undertake our training session.
- During training, you will be asked to fill in the Disclosure and Barring Service – DBS form (previously known as CRB check).
- We will also requestreferences from the 2 referees you have given us.
This may seem a long process but if everything goes well and ALL references and DBS checks are cleared, you should start volunteering within 2-3 weeks from the day you were trained.
