Viewing the Digital Portfolio: A Parent Guide
It is likely that your student has begun (or will soon begin) work on his/her digital portfolio. The purpose of this memo is to acquaint you with the portfolio requirements and give you access to view your student’s portfolio from home.
What is the digital portfolio requirement?
PHS, like all high schools in RI, has a unique set of school wide expectations for learning. We refer to them as the PGEs or Ponaganset Graduation Expectations. Each of these has several related learner outcomes, or more specific standards for learning that are assessed by all teachers with specific rubrics. The digital portfolio was established in 2003 as our means of tracking a student’s progress on these PGEs and learner outcomes, ensuring that all diploma recipientsmeet the expectations that are required of a Ponaganset graduate.
All students must maintain a digital portfolio of selected pieces of student work while they are at Ponaganset High School.
Each entry contains twoparts:
1.a digital copy of an artifact that meets or exceeds at least one learner outcome
2. a reflection that is evaluated separately
Students typically put in 9 entries per year in 10th and 11th grade and 2 in Senior year. Transfer students are prorated based on a transcript analysis.
Additionally, all 9th-11thgraders will complete an end-of-year tour and evaluation.
