Holistic Crisis Planning Train-the-Trainer Suggested Activity Descriptions
What is needed:
Copies of the facilitator slide deck
Copies of the facilitator’s manual (this details what is needed when providing a training)
Flip Chart Paper and a marker
- Reflection on HCP Training (30 min- although flexible) – Taking time to reflect on the training and the points that need more discussion, ask a general question about anything that stood out, or points that need further discussion.
- Facilitating Effective Trainings (15 min) – Take time to list as a group past examples of facilitation and what made them really great versus examples where improvement was needed and what made them not so great. (We usually list these out on flip chart)
- Working Through the HCP Material (30 min) – Have Participants skim through the HCP training slide deck and divvy up the sections. Ask people to report back in their own words the key messaging of each section (this is really just about getting people more familiar with materials).
- Review HCP Facilitator’s Manual (30 min) – Have people read through the manual individually (this is about getting people acquainted with this resource and how to navigate it) and then discuss any questions that emerge
- Watch HCP Videos (20 min)– This is helpful to just reground the group in HCP
- Activity –Addressing the Challenging Questions (30 min) -This is optional, it tends to go over well though. This activity involve divvying the trainers into 2 groups.
- After this, each group generate a few questions for the other group. The questions are things that they as individuals hesitate to answer or do not feel comfortable responding to ---something that they would really dread explaining or answering (e.g. Aren’t we already doing this approach? What if the client wants me to be directive?)
- Once each group has a few questions they would hate to answer—the groups take turn asking each other their dreaded questions and getting responses from the opposite group
- Where to get support (10 min) – take a little time to express who the champion is and their role (e.g. relaying the agency implementation successes and barriers to a larger systems table), but also take time to highlight where the HCP approach will be built into team meetings and supervision for ongoing reflection.
- Evaluation (10min)- Reviewthe client level evaluation- since now this is optional in each agency. And then perhaps just let them know that every 3 months the champion will be sending out a staff evaluation- this is brief about 15 min. We send you the template for the email with the link and the champion distributes to all implementing staff.
