ZAMBALES SUPER MANGO/ AGRICULTURAL TOUR STAKEHOLDERS WORKSHOP MODULE

INTRODUCTION

In our efforts to standardize services and to fully develop quality tourism products, the Office of Product Research and Development (OPRD) have developed a Stakeholders Workshop Module for Zambales Super Mango/ Agricultural Tour Program. This module is designed to help local stakeholders in Zambales tourism industryon how to effectivelyoperate and manage a tour in their respective areas. It features a basic step by step approach in tour development. It is aimed that this training module will build capability to our stakeholders in providing the best service for foreign and local tourists.

A stakeholder’sworkshop is necessary for the area because of the need to organize and developlocal tour guides and handlers for tour operators promoting the Zambales Super Mango/ Agricultural Tour.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

The following are the objectives of the workshop:

  • To exhibit basic competencies in tour development, organization and management;
  • To gain basic skills and understanding of tour guiding;
  • To have an appreciation for Philippine as well as their own local culture, the super mango and local agricultural products and other tourism resources and attractions;
  • To develop tour scriptsin respective sites and attraction that will serve as catalyst for development and enhancement of tour spiels; and
  • To organize a pool of local tour guides and handlers.

WORKSHOP COMPONENTS

The following components will form part of the training module:

  1. Inventory and appreciation of local culture and resources
  2. Organizing and managing tour programs (tools and technique)
  3. Putting the Pieces together: Super Mango/ Agricultural Tour Itinerary Development
  4. Super Mango/ Agricultural Tour Script
  5. Costing and pricing

APPROACH/METHODOLOGY

The training will have a centered learning methodology that is highly participatory and experiential in nature. It will adopt the followingapproach through:

  • Lectures and Discussions
  • Workshops
  • Study Tour
  • Practical Exercises

WORKSHOP OUTPUT:

The Zambales Super Mango/ Agricultural Tour Stakeholders Workshop aims for the following outputs:

  • Inventory of the attractions and activities of specific tour stops/areas
  • Initial Tour Scripts
  • For tour guides to gain understanding and practical experience in organizing and managing tours
  • Develop a pool of local tour guides per tour stop/ destination

TARGET PARTICIPANTS

A total of 30 participants from the province of Zambales specifically coming from the sites and destinations included in the itinerary will be targeted to participate.

Per DOT requirement, the participants should be:

-Resident of the area or region

-Fluent in English, Filipino and the local dialect

-Must be knowledgeable and proud of their locality

TRAINING WORKSHOP ORGANIZATION/TASKING

The workshop will be a joint effort of the Department of Tourism, the Zambales Tourism and Investment Promotion Office, Philippine Tour Agencies Association (PTAA) and the Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA). Following are the delineation of responsibilities:
