Learn how to create a painting on watercolor paper starting with watercolors and/or acrylicsOR paint on canvas with thin layers of color and shapes which leave crisp edges. You will continue to layer on paint and then add pastelsor other media to add dimension. The combination of media allows for easy changes. Bring your photo references to be used for inspiration for your artworks.
Basic Materials:
Sketch Pad 9 x 12 min. size or larger. Many important pointswill be given during the
classes for note taking and sketching.
PaintsWatercolors OR Acrylics, bring your normal selection of colors.
BrushesBring what you normally use for your medium and include flatsand rounds.
PaletteBring what you normally use for mixing your paints.
Watercolored Pencils and/OR Pastel pencils
Kneaded Eraser
Tape
Kleenix
Paper Towels
RagsFor greener clean-up and less paper usage.
Plastic table cover for easy clean-up.
Value FinderTo evaluate the light to dark tones in your painting (can buy in class $2.00).

For Watercolors
Paper 1 sheet 300# or 140# cold press OR hot press watercolor paper
SupportA firm surface to tape your paper onto such as plexiglass, cardboard or foamboard.
For Acrylics:
Palette Knife
Retarder Used for acrylics to keep them wet. (Prefer Golden’s )
Gel MediumSoft or Regular in matte or semi-gloss finish (used for gluing collage and
extending your paints)
Canvas Board or stretched, you choose what size you’d like to work on.
For Pastels
Hard PastelsNuPastel OR
Soft PastelsHalf Stick sets made by various companies such as:
-Loew Cornell sets - Rembrandt
PaperConson Mi-Teintes by the sheet or pad OR watercolor paper hot press 140#
Brush1 small round OR flat brush (helps remove pastels from paper)
Stumps (Tortillons in various sizes (light-grey paper)
Aluminum foilTo place under your easel edge to catch the dust.
EaselThe art center has stand-up easels which you can use sitting down. But
If you wish to draw upright on table top surface, then bring your own easel.
Easels are highly recommended, easier to controlling the chalk dust.
